NWLL baseball scandal

Some better than others, most motivated by a desire to get out on the field with the kids and playing ball. Some coaches favor their own kids more than they should while others do not. Most games are fun and low drama and most kids enjoy the experience. Similar to what you’d see anywhere. This is coming from a parent who has watched their kids play various sports in various parts of the city and whose spouse has also been a volunteer coach.

But the allegations against the president, whose actions as reflected in the letter realiy only affect the 12u players, and specifically the ones who want to make the tournament team, are in a completely different category. Unfortunately the icky dynamics surrounding this whole controversy seems to be leaving a bad taste in everyone’s mouth across the league.

To be clear, I believe the allegations are serious and need to be addressed. And parents should not be afraid to speak up when they see misconduct on the part of board members. But a parent of a five year old who wants to play baseball need not be too concerned about their child’s personal experience with NWLL- at least not for several years!

The allegations against the president were broader beyond the 12u players.
The President retaliated against the commissioner for the AAA league when the commissioner raised concerns about the umps. AAA is age 9-11
The President retaliated against the 11 U team by not providing them the resources they needed. (Why should the coach have to beg for equipment?)
This has a lot larger scope

I disagree. The president and his cronies can make progressing and thriving difficult for this child in the future. Find a new club.

Is there a reason the board cannot provide actual evidence of said waivers etc? Their word is not enough.

It’s not a club — your LL is determined by where you live / go to school. NWLL is really a great community and we were grateful to be a part of it. 12U ASs gets very tense, and brings out the worst, but it does so everywhere (our year, CCLL had the good team and there was plenty of drama and bad behavior). The allegations are serious and frankly these people on the Board no longer have kids in the game and really should leave, but kids do thrive and have great experiences in NWLL. Travel simply doesn’t replicate it and families would miss out not being a part of this LL.

Many valid points listed in the thread so far can be true at the same time...

The repeated shenanigans of NW to get to Williamsport (at least the past 2 years), while breaking LL rules- PREVENTED other kids and DC district TEAMS from competing and getting a chance to go themselves...Why does no one mention that as a consequence/ result??

LL is supposed to determined by where you live / go to school- but has been confirmed to be fudged by NW on some waivers. Show us the waivers...

The above points are above and beyond the inhouse issues. Let them fight it out "in house" with that bologna.

We've had quite a few bad experiences in NWLL and this is really making us consider moving our AAA kid to a travel team. Any recs other than Dynasty?

Good move. You can check out northern VA travel ball teams. lots of options. Or another new team/ philosophy/ coaching I like is Mitchell Marlins.

Is win within still around? They were the best antidote to NWLL for us a few years ago.

NP here. I see Win Within has some teams listed on the NVTBL site so they’re at least active at the 14u level.

LL is determined by where you live. You have to move to go to a different one. That's a lot to ask.

Maybe you just hate black men leading this organization.

Anywhere with non-dad coaches. Generally more expensive but the lack of BS is well worth it.
