I was thinking it was related to the cruises but thinking more about it, I think it’s firing Sid but that plan isn’t going to work with Logan not around. That’s why Tom told Greg to stay close to Sid. |
Yes, I think it was so well done. It was what Kendall said - people will be watching their response and even beyond that, they fight against what they feel vs what they are supposed to feel. When Kendall was on the ship deck, he looked so free for a minute. That was before and after crying. Even if they don’t truly feel sadness for his death (which I do think they do), he leaves a huge void in their lives. They have always reacted to situations based on how Logan will react or what he expects. They likely feel untethered and unsure because they have never in their lives been independent in thought and actions. All of that plus the fact that they are complete nepo babies, going up against seasoned competent people like Jerri etc will be interesting to see. The kids have always thought those people were employees but now daddy’s not around. Should be fun! |
Kerry is also the least important person here. The only one who wanted her around is dead, so what role does she have now? Proximity to power is not power. At least, it is until it isn't. |
Kerri was such a boring character. They could have made the asssistant/girlfriend more interesting in so many ways. Unless he changed his Will or she’s pregnant (both trite ways to deal with her in the storyline), she seems totally irrelevant now. |
When Shiv said she was hoping it was Mom not Dad - oof. Such complicated relationships. |
Id her NDA null now that he’s dead? She’s got knowledge for sure. |
Oh no, Kerry is toast. That was the point of the scene with Kerry. I think we’ll never see her again. Her getting into the car was the farewell. |
That wasn't obvious. I think it was the girl he was chatting with who said "how's your uncle?" |
Agree with all of this. A favorite moment of the episode for me was after they did the press conference when the three kids were outside and wondering if they should go over to meet their dad's body as it came off the plane. Roman clearly felt obligated to go and Shiv said something like "It's not like dad will get mad at us if we don't" and I found that so relatable as someone with a similarly withholding, overbearing father. That realization that FINALLY you are truly free of their judgment and punishments. I wonder if watching Succession has made any people who parent the way Logan did realize "oh, I've basically made it so my children will celebrate my death because I've made impossible for love or support to exist in our relationship." That would actually be amazing to me. I remember when one of my uncles died my dad was really moved by the way his daughters, my cousins, just really surrounded my uncle with love and support. And then I watched it slowly dawn on my dad that it wouldn't be like that for him because we don't have that kind of relationship. It was really sad. He did try harder after that but he could never shake his impulse to belittle and judge, and he just didn't know how to offer actual support or validation. A lot of peopel won't let you be open about stuff like this, so yeah, you do have to kind perform an expected kind of grief. And you are sad, but it's for all of it, the entire relationship, not just for the loss of this person. It's grief for the loss of ever having a loving parent -- it's now officially too late and that will never be something for you. It's profoundly said but in a much more complicated way than just "I miss my dad." In a far less socially accepted way. |
Well thought out and agree with a lot of your points. I think that’s why this episode was so impactful, in addition to the amazing acting |
I think you had to know that the girl Greg was hanging out with was a reporter. It was mentioned very quickly early on and I missed it, but my DH picked up on it. And then when Greg was on the phone with Tom, the reporter is nearby watching him and they even cut to her, I think, when Tom said something like "but if it does get out, people should know I was with him on the plane." So it wasn't spelled out exactly but they set it up from the start by placing Greg with the reporter on the boat. |
+1, I do think this will come up. Especially because of the stuff with her audition to get a show and the way that went down in such an embarrassing way for her -- I think Kerry will get angry about being shoved aside and, NDA or no, will try to wreak havoc. I'm guessing something like: giving interviews about details from Logan and the kids relationship/interactions in his last days to undercut any move by the kids to take over, writing a tell-all for fame and money that is extremely embarrassing to the company and family, throwing some kind of public fit at or adjacent to the funeral to get a cash payout for silence. Could also see her finding an ally who finds her useful (Greg, Tom, Jerri -- someone who is currently adrift thanks to Logan's death but who could mine some leverage out of Kerry's access to Logan over the last year or so) and getting protection/assistance from them until she outlives her usefulness. I don't actually think that's the end of that character, unfortunately. |
You know it was a dramatic episode when no one has touched on Shiv’s outfit. I hated it at first but makes sense the siblings were all in dark colors later. |
Kerry wanted to get pregnant last season. Wasn’t this why Logan was drinking pineapple juice or something? I feel like this may rear it’s ugly head….. |
So I agree, Tom and Kerry are both done. The rest of the season is going to be a stand off between the board and the 3 kids Kendall, Roman & Siobhan as they vie for top spot (again).
FWIW I found Sarah Snook's performance in this episode the most emotionally resonant - really wonderful. |
