+1 I know POC who will not visit a doctor who is POC for this very reason. |
You can say it as many times as makes you feel better - still untrue. DP here (who has significant random sample). I'm not going to spell it out for you, if you are simply not that bright. |
I would take your story to the NYT, if I were you. Such a great story, truly. Your son will do wonderful things in this world. |
DP, why should letters of recommendation matter? FCPS has schools with 3,000 students and each senior is expected to have a counselor who even knows they exist let alone can write anything about them? |
Haha. I guess you are one of the wokes that everyone that disagrees with affirmative action ( most people in the US) is racist. I'm not going to post his transcript, but he was at a math and science academy and took the most difficult classes possible. I am not chest thumping,.just letting parents know about VCCS because college admissions offices are run by people like you. |
Other DP here. They do matter, and the ones that I saw were outstanding. I think more people should know about the "secrets" of admissions, and where admissions is going. Parents of students who are accepted at certain schools want to think it was because their application reigned supreme - but that is often not the case. People are happy to feign ignorance, until it suits them. |
To add, your situation happens more than most people (parents) realize. It is only a matter of time before people get fed up, organize, start publicizing what is happening, and do something about it. |
I think the counselor recommendation can be discounted. I am speaking about the letters of recommendation from an individual's teachers. |
Again, people are happy to feign ignorance until it suits them. (Wait for it....) |
I didn't read his teachers letters of recommendation, but he got letters from two teachers that he had wonderful relationships with and certainly wrote positive letters. Maybe they were poorly written, but I don't know. The essays were apolitical and well written. They were edited by a college counselor from a veteran's organization that he signed up for. I really don't like the essay excuse for non admission. How well can you get to know someone by reading a few hundred words that could be totally made up? Most probably are. |
+1 Many are. Me "volunteering" in my parent's home country? GTFOH. |
Nooo way we would go to the NYT. He is very content to be working his way to be an engineer. If anything, he learned a bit about adversity not getting treated fairly. The world isn't fair. I did however sign up to be a member of SFFA. They take colleges to court. I don't think the NYT or WaPo would be interested either. It doesn't fit their social agenda. |
+1. NP. I don’t read either NYT or Wapo for that matter. But the Wall Street Journal might be interested in the story and would treat it fairly |
What is Navience data? I searched for it but couldn't find the specifics for VT. Can you please post a link? |
In all subjects or in just math and science? We know that rigor across the core is important at UVA. With 50,000 applications, they can pick from many excellent students, so every bit of the application matters, too. |
