States that make it formulaic and automatic instate have the right idea |
Okay. UVA wins. Grand Pooh nah school of the World. But if it takes 11 APs to get into WM, seems like 10-12 is low for UVA. Probably more like 14. And if 4.3/1500s are bEIng rejected, from WM, you woUld need 4.4-4.5 for UVA. Yes? |
Does anyone know how UVA recalculates GPAs? Are Freshman grades included? How much bump for Honors and AP classes? Our private only gives an unweighted GPA which is pretty worthless with all of this talk of 4.0+ GPAs that are clearly weighted somehow. |
42% vs 28% for instate 2026 is “almost half)? Someone was a math major at UVA. |
Stop you know you’re just trying to piss people off. They are completely different schools and both great options. And I have a kid at UVA. |
+1. My family has 3 generations under our belt at UVA and my kid’s stats are the highest yet (by far). They will ED at WM because they are by far a better fit (much to my personal chagrin!). The admitted student stats at WM basically identical to UVA. They attract different kids and that’s ok. |
The ones that were admitted ED at our nova school had around/near a 4.4 gpa. My child was admitted and will have taken 12 APs |
Awww. Glad your kid is gOInG Tribe! Mine loves it. And never considered UVA. Same reason. The fit wasn’t there. It feels like kids who apply to WM and UVA are just shotgunning applications and haven’t really spent time thinking about what college is right for them. Both great schools with similar outcomes. |
Tougher to get in from NOVA or DC? |
My kid actually liked both. |
I don't know. My social, sporty and quirky kid liked things about both UVA and W&M and had a hard time deciding which was his first choice. Turns out he didn't get into UVA so the choice was made for him, but I'm sure he would've been just as happy if it had gone the other way. |
Is it just me or is 10 to 12 APs kind of silly/too much. Does this make high school just a grind? I thought 7 should kind of be max desired. |
Not as "much" as you think - WM runs a close second to UVA, and suits some kids better - WM is much smaller, and UVA simply cannot take every kid that qualifies for UVA. |
DC. In state certainly helps and no shortage of high caliber DC applicants. (Of course ROVA is easier than NOVA). |
+1 Nailed it. Check the right box and you are in, basically. |
