So she should smile more?

Okay, so only feminine women deserve to be rescued. Got it.

No, no. I am simply saying, that Biden chose poorly. We left a US service member there to rot, but magically returned someone who broke drug laws in their host county, had an anti-US attitude anyway, and who beat her girlfriend. And we traded her for the release of the biggest arms dealer in the world. In one sense, this is historic in that it’s the biggest WNBA trade of all time. Maybe she should smile more.

Also, what kind of message does this send to incarcerated people state side convicted of marijuana possession? Maybe we should have released Whelan first. Y’ver think about that?

Biden just pardoned everyone incarcerated federally for marijuana possession and urged governors to do the same in their states. And we’re not the ones holding Whelan so we can’t release him.

The difference is that the Whelan family has grace, class, and the willingness of recognize reality.

We traded for an American citizen being held in an oppressive regime. Period. None of the other factors as to what you think of her worth and a human or her trade value matter.

If you don't think that republicans will make hay over choosing Griner over Whelan or over trading an arms dealer for Griner, you haven't been paying attention.

I think they will and they are. And I think they are amoral dicks for doing so.

I think the Biden administration is pandering for choosing Griner over Whelan. Somehow freeing Griner is a national priority, but Wehlan gets left to rot.

There is no way to get Whelan back without (1) admitting that he was a spy, and (2) giving back a Russian spy that we do not want to admit we know is a spy. Both of those likely would likely present significant national security considerations.

The "service member" was no longer active duty and was not in Russia serving his country. His prior service has no relevance to getting him released from his sentence for the crime he committed.

Are you sure about that?

Whelan is not part of the deal. Obviously,. Griner was the popular choice. And. While I happy that she is free, it was her ok em stupid that out her where she was. There is nothing heroic about her. It is sad that she is a now a martyr and will cash in $$$$$$$! Stupidity pays well for her

That's a lot of words. But fairly incomprehensible.

You don't like her. You don't find her worthy of rescue. We got it. No one said she was a hero. Or didn't act stupidly. She's still an American and is every bit worthy of being brought home as anyone else.

Apparently she's more worthy

No, the price for getting a spy returned is higher than a washed up arms dealer who has been in prison for 14 years already.

Also he was court martialed for multiple counts of larceny and using a fake SSN to create an identity on a government computer system, for which he got a dishonorable discharge.

MAGA loves ex-service members with dishonorable discharges.

Worst trade ever. Meanwhile, our marine, who has been imprisoned over 4 years remains there. This was a good prisoner swap? Whomever handled that negotiation is pretty bad at it.
