Not suggesting any conspiracy theories here, but it’s particularly odd (1) considering the weaponry and number of shots fired (around 60), (2) live-streamed from the shooter showing children running across the bridge with hands covering their heads and the school safety officer, who was shot, attempting to find cover behind occupied vehicles and (3) bullets striking businesses and a parked vehicle over a half mile away. Maybe concern about copycats?

If I’m not mistaken, Virginia has no assault rifle ban. No ban on silencers. No ban on magazines holding more than 12 rounds.

To its credit, the Democratic Governor and legislature did enact universal background checks and a red flag law since Nov. 2020.

The mental health issue is even worse than it was. Even if you have all the money in the world and agree to seek help, there just aren’t enough providers.

I know. We need a movement to address mental and integrative health in this country, like the effort and attention put towards climate change. It needs to be an all in approach, including SEL in schools, healthy lifestyle. investment in community structures like clubhouses and group activities (as people have pulled away from organized religion, what's replaced that?), access to therapy, and commitment including involuntary.

Get back in your clown car, NRA shills. These programs already exists and are huge money pits. Also, organized religion is still a dominant structure in many American's lives. We need fewer guns and better gun control, as well as licensing--much like driving a car, owning and using a gun should be a privilege, not a right.

So why won't you address the role of community / breakdown of community and alienation in what's going on with our youth? I gave church as only one example among many. Yes, guns play a role, but it would be great to avert youth from ever getting to that point . Once there, of course we have to address it .

I agree that is exactly what this was. However, there is an element of suicide by cop. I am horrified there were any victims if he was simply looking for a way out, but to me it seems like that was underlying given his arsenal. So disturbing. All specific details of how EB responded in this emergency situation should be taken down immediately BTW.
