And after how cool Anna played it, scrolling on her phone while Rachel floundered around trying to figure out payment, I’m surprised Rachel still wanted to go on that tour with her! I mean, how naive can someone be?

I think Anna sucks but I did not have a ton of sympathy for Rachel. When you think about it, she was trying to run the same scam she was just bad at it.

Who did Rachel think was going to pay for everything in that trip? Her rich friend Anna. It’s not like they were splitting the costs and Rachel got stiffed. She was trying to mooch off her rich friend to have a luxury vacation in an exotic place, and instead got stuck with the bill. This is different from being scammed by someone who is taking advantage of you. Rachel was trying to take advantage, and then it turned out her mark wasn’t actually rich. That’s dumb, but not very sympathetic to me.

Anna obviously thought her loans were going to come through and she’d pay for the trip that way. Super dumb, but it appears that she planned to pay and just got caught out. And what she was doing was more honest than what Rachel was doing. Anna did actually plan to start that club and make money for investors. Whereas Rachel never had any intention of paying for her share if that trip.

DP. Anna OFFERED to take them on an all-expenses paid trip! I can't stand either Anna or Rachel, but let's be clear - Anna offered to pay for everything from the start. There was never any splitting of bills or "share".

She’s a mooch, sure, but she did not deserve to have her credit card charged, and Anna is not “more honest” than her. WTF? Who forced Anna to plan this $$$ trip anyway?

I watched the whole series but did not enjoy the fact that both her lawyer and the journalist seemed enamored of her. Her character was bratty and entitled and the entire story seemed to focus on the fact that people really cared for her. Nevertheless it was interesting to watch.

The timeline in real life was actually very different from the timeline of the show. In real life, the trip was 5 months AFTER Anna withdrew her loan application. She never had any plans to pay Rachel back starting when she got Rachel to buy the flights. I don’t know if she planned to get Rachel to pay for the hotel as well, but she knew she had no way of paying for it herself.

This story would make so much more sense if Anna was actually attractive. She doesn't have good style either and her accent is annoying AF. It blows my mind that she got away with so much.

The real Anna was averagely cute (when she was not in court/prison gear), but not enormously attractive. So the show copies life in that regard. Agree that the actress' accent was horrible.

I agree that they are both average to cute. However the real Anna is so much more dislikable. She has this constant smug demeanor that makes me want to punch her that Julie Garner can’t quite capture. With her character it was over the top enough not to feel real.

Anna would pick up the tab at dinners and bars, yes. But what kind of mooch let's their friend do that 24/7? I would never order something that I knew I couldn't pay for even if I assumed someone else was paying.

That is an insane video. It almost seems like a parody itself. But yes, she's definitely average-looking, pretty pathetic, and utterly unlikable. Also seems sociopathic. Amazing anyone got taken in by this person, but then perhaps she's very different when her scam skills are turned to "on."

Wow - that video is something else. The psychologist is spot-on. Anna is a deep, deep narcissist.

"It's hard to interview a con-artist." lol!
Interesting that the psychologist author interviewed other con-artists who had not yet been caught. Sounds like they were happy to talk, but how did she find tehm in teh first place? I'll have to find her book!

Rachel is a mooch. It's a very unattractive quality. But Anna is a swindler. She steals money from people who didn't volunteer it. It's a crime and destroys the trust of her victims.
