As for the topic of school choice, I’m all for it. Public schools need some competition. Currently they are running wild and no longer care about academics.

Vouchers just destroy schools. That won't fix problems at the administrative level or with fads in progressive education.

And th will ensure pp’ working conditions get even worse when she’s expect do all the same stuff with fewer resources as funding moves to private and charter schools.

And she’d also better hope she never gets a class of kids who aren’t as strong academically, because Republicans favor accountability systems where teachers are evaluated based on things like non-relative SOL performance. Doesn’t matter how much you did to get Billy caught up this year when he came in two grade levels behind, if he just barely fails his SOL pp will get dinged for it in her performance review.

Thank you for your honestly! We moved into a FCPS district years ago thinking we’d send our kids to great schools. Now, we can’t fathom sending them to public school. While I’m certain the teachers want to focus on academics, and not politics, the school board has set an agenda I just can’t support or expose my children to.

I pay attention to the ridiculous policies that have been pushed by the Virginia parties over the years, and I’m not seeing the party of the vaginal probe becoming more statesmanlike or mature, but instead doubling down on guns, misogyny, and Trump. McAuliffe may be a Democratic Clintonist hack, but he’ll veto all the dumb crap out of Richmond. Virginia also got better run overall during his las administration.

I can’t believe any of you base your voting decisions on PR stunts and manufactured outrage. I find it particularly ironic all the people who are clutching their pearls over a campaign ad but at the same time supported and voted for Trump - the biggest corrupt sleazeball ever.

I believe not only in checks-and-balances but also honesty and Youngkin is far more honest than McAuliffe who will use all the 'Clintonist' attacks he perfected at the helm of both Clinton campaigns to worm his way out of accepting responsibility for anything -- including his own party operatives smearing an opponent.

Aside from that, you were perfectly happy to see 'dumb crap out of Richmond' become policy when all Virginia school boards were overridden and forced to hold in-person classes regardless of case rates.

So stop with the McAuliffe hypocrisy.

You’re a Youngkin supporter who wants to close down schools again? That’s not going to work out the way you think it will.

Nope. I'm a Youngkin supporter who knows he would never allow schools to close down the way the Democrat Governor of Virginia - Northam - or his wannabee successor McAuliffe - did and still would.

+1000. Youngkin would have handled Covid in the schools like DeSantis did in FL- schools open, vulnerable protected snd everyone much, much better off. If you know anyone in Florida with kids in school ask them how happy they are that their kids were not subjected to the madness.

Just like much of Europe did, schools open, no masks for kids under 12.

Many schools in Europe closed too.

Thank you for caring about VA kids. What foolish but we’ll-intentioned democrats are doing to schools is not ok!

Look at what DeVos did in Michigan. Criminal.

This. Done with the loony left, thanks. Most of us are moderate, sensible people…

DP. The good schools in FCPS are good schools. The school board's agenda doesn't change that.

You think Republicans would have kept schools closed? I hava bridge to sell you. These are the people iffy and wishy washy about masks and vaccines. Don’t let your anger about the timing of one issue that you didn’t like blind you to how the world is working.

MANY schools were virtual - even in states with Republican governors.

What are you talking about? Winsome Sears is a Republican - Democrats aren’t supporting her because of her policy positions, not her race.

Also, she’s running against another POC, so by your standards no one could vote for either candidates without turning their backs on a POC.

That comment doesn’t make any sense.

It's all BS and is done in a way that doesn't give time for voters to learn the truth.

We’re talking about the 2021 VA gov election here. Keep up.

Lincoln Project are republicans. Pulling the same crap against Democrats each cycle, including 2021. Keep up.

They helped elect Biden. You’re angry. I get it.

Ironically they will also help elect Youngkin

With this little stunt? No, hardly anyone has noticed this, and the ones who have, they have already made up their minds, one way or the other.

DP. That's some serious denial! My family across the country called tonight and were laughing about the McAuliffe stunt. It's definitely being talked about.

A family member from PA texted earlier to commiserate that the crazies are attacking their school board.

The world has gone mad.

Cite to the incident, please.

Mainline. Rs are attacking PTO members over CRT, books, and crazy, unfounded lies. Honestly sounds worse than LoCo because Rs are viciously attacking individuals and even making threats.

Picture Eagles fans at school board meetings.

I have no idea what your last sentence means. Fans of a football team are attending these meetings?

It makes more sense if you follow US football. Let’s just say that some people up there can get *really* rowdy.

Anyway, I’m not sure if there is a “link” from this most recent drama but she did send this to me earlier this year. She’s said it’s gotten even worse because parents are attacking other parents now. It’s a purple area so more Rs than nova. Sounds even more divided.

So nuts.

Can you start your own thread? What does Pennsylvania (Valley Forge area or wherever) have anything to do with the Virginia election? Nothing. So please start your own thread and discuss it there.

My original point was people around the US *are* noticing what is happening in VA. And some of this crazy is happening elsewhere too.

Someone else kept asking questions about it. Happy to answer more on another thread if that person still has question.

Imagine, for a moment, how the media would handle THAT story. Now, consider how they are handling THIS story.

Precisely this. Not to mention the posters who have their noses out of joint because their stupid candidate did something stupid. All they can do is splutter and invoke Trump - as usual. I'm so embarrassed for anyone who supports McAuliffe.

We’re all cringing with secondhand embarrassment for Youngkin voters, so it all works out.

I am a Democrat who voted for Youngkin. You are the reason why I walking away from my party.

Comments from an anonymous person on a mommy website made you vote for Youngkin?

Teacher here again. This is a common talking point and not true. Private schools in the area have always had long wait lists. There are not a large amount of openings for a mass exodus from public schools. What could happen in an ideal world? More privates and charters could open, creating competition and forcing public schools to turn attention back to academics. This is a pie in the sky dream.

None of us are worried about jobs. There is a huge teacher shortage everywhere. Most public schools still have open positions. That tells you something about the current state of schools. If more schools open, that means even more jobs.

An ideal world like DCPS? They have lots of charters and they have school choice with their lottery system. They also have very high teacher pay.

Vouchers and school choice sound great on paper. In reality, they aren't good for students or academics.

Exactly. He did it before and he’ll do it again.

We know Rs in Richmond were already crazy (probes) and the GOP has become even crazier in recent years. Who knows what they will try to attempt.
