Where I grew up. You played in regionals/districts based on your school size. So you could play a school during the regular season that was larger or smaller but during the playoffs these schools would be regrouped based on size - sort of like AAA, AA, A. Thus, you might play in a region but you would have to win it to move farther along in the state playoff system. Doesn't seem like in Virginia.

There are 4 regions in 6A(largest enrollment). There are two districts in each region. The district tournaments are seeded based off regular season results.
The top 6(out of 8, generally) advance to regions. Then the top 2(finalists) advance from regions to state.
States is then bracketed where Regional Champions play other regional runner ups in the first round. Winners move to semifinals and then the Title game. Regional Champs aren’t normally on the same bracket side as the runner up from their region. So you could in theory play the same team for District, Region and State Championships.

Thank yoy. That is a better explanation. A little weird that you can lose in a district championship game and still advance.

Do you think it’s weird at the college level where you can lose a conference championship and get in the NCAA tournament with an at large bid?

It guards against a real good team having just a bad game in the district/ region finals. Also, there are vast differences between most of the teams in NOVA and the VA beach area.
Personally I think for every one bid that the Va Beach teams get, Richmond should get two and Nova should get three.

Yes. To some degree.

Robinson, and now Madison, have made a mockery of Class 6 this season.

Freedom's FO play did them in the 2nd half of the season, and teams learned to just keep the ball away from their offense and on the sideline.

First preseason ranking poll this year called for a Robinson v. Madison State Championship game and it is hard to see anything else happening. If that is the game it will be a lot closer than last time and one of the best ever.

This game needs to be moved from Richmond to NOVA. No excuses.

I was at the Robinson / McLean game. No son on either team and did not play at either school. I guess this is pretty self-evident by the final score, but McLean was never in the game after the second or third minute of Q1. I went to the game thinking it would be good based on their close game early in the season. Robinson is solid everywhere. Not exactly a profound or insightful observation I admit. What you'd expect from an undefeated team.

McLean got exposed in the last week getting thrashed by Madison & Robinson. Makes you wonder how just average Yorktown really was this season.

Why are we still hating on YT. They were a solid team. Madison and Robo appear to be the top 2 and YT played both of them tight. McLean is a good team that took out YT with all region goalie under the weather. McLean was down a goal at half to Madison. McLean may be the most athletic team we’ve seen. Hard to hate on any of those teams.
