Prince William Lacrosse is better than ya'll think. At least at the top.

Onto States...

We will see if Battlefield can hang with Madison and Robinson here soon.

Battlefield will host Madison in a state semi once they both clear their quarterfinal match-ups. Robinson has to feel pretty damn good w/McLean, Freedom and Deep Runs on their side of bracket...

It's the state tournament. All the teams are competitive, otherwise they would not be there.

One Prince William team is very good. Let's be honest, Haymarket should really be annexed by Loudoun.

Not true, but OK...

So for a newbie to VA State Playoffs. Can some explain how districts, regionals and then states work. It feels like teams can lose in districts and then show up in states.

Where I grew up. You played in regionals/districts based on your school size. So you could play a school during the regular season that was larger or smaller but during the playoffs these schools would be regrouped based on size - sort of like AAA, AA, A. Thus, you might play in a region but you would have to win it to move farther along in the state playoff system. Doesn't seem like in Virginia.

Playoffs (district/regional/states) are based on size (6, 5 and 1-4 are the 3 groups). Usually the top 2 advance in each round (district -> regional -> state). During the regular season (before district games) you can play across classes (1-6).

Yeah, there are a bunch of schools not in states that would beat Deep Run and even more that would beat Glen Allen.

There are 4 regions in 6A(largest enrollment). There are two districts in each region. The district tournaments are seeded based off regular season results.
The top 6(out of 8, generally) advance to regions. Then the top 2(finalists) advance from regions to state.
States is then bracketed where Regional Champions play other regional runner ups in the first round. Winners move to semifinals and then the Title game. Regional Champs aren’t normally on the same bracket side as the runner up from their region. So you could in theory play the same team for District, Region and State Championships.

Battlefield's Region has three Districts (Cedar Run, Commonwealth and Cardinal) for a Total of 19 Teams. When it comes to All-Region Voting you have 12 Attackman, Middies, and Poles to pick the best 4 for 1st Team All-Region. Some Regions only have 8-10 Teams in Total.

Thank yoy. That is a better explanation. A little weird that you can lose in a district championship game and still advance.

Do you think it’s weird at the college level where you can lose a conference championship and get in the NCAA tournament with an at large bid?

It guards against a real good team having just a bad game in the district/ region finals. Also, there are vast differences between most of the teams in NOVA and the VA beach area.
Personally I think for every one bid that the Va Beach teams get, Richmond should get two and Nova should get three.
