DA vs ECNL vs everything else

Keep dreaming. The federation would write and talk and carry on about problems with pay to play and the costs and the issues with the travel and then what did they do? The GDA! Solved non of it. go figure.

A player of that club can "guest" on their DA team up to 5 games in the year. After that, they must be offered a roster spot to play anymore. The same is for ECNL - which they call discovery players.

Why are you telling us what we already (painfully) know? Complaints without solutions are boring. What will you do about it?

What can we do? Speak about it. Try to resist. Our team is fairly vocal about trying to dispense with far flung travel as much as possible.

The only solution is choosing more localized leagues or organized parental resistance.

The amount of travel has exactly zero effect on the quality of players coming out of the system. The only thing that will drive change in youth travel soccer is money. The federation, ecnl, all leagues in fact are not incentivized to fix it.

Disagree. I think ti has an effect and some young good players are shut out of high level soccer because of the silly travel and associated costs.

Except in the ECNL, they do not have to be part of the club or an affiliated club. It doesn't happen often, but I do know of instances where discovery players were allowed to guest from non-affiliated clubs.

Good point. I would grant you that but thats not going to save our national teams.

With regard to a local competitive league with pro/rel, that is what NCSL is. The format is there but the competition has left to some degree. Will your local GDA team join NCSL?

And there are no restrictions on the number of games or even the timing. So a discovery player can play for their team in the morning, and then go play for the ECNL team they are guesting for that afternoon.

Not an expert but the experts seem to uniformly lament the negative effects pay to play imposes on US soccer.

I think it’s much more likely that they bring back Bob Bradley to “qualify for the World Cup” after we struggle at the beginning of the hexagonal for 2022. Rinse, wash, repeat.

They are good at what they do, their players are good, and Arlington is the more aesthetically pleasing one to watch of the 3, but they’re nothing to write home about as far as style of play. Just USMNT lite glorified kickball with midfield runners and high pressing in spurts as soon as a game gets tough.

How did you come to this conclusion? How many games have you watched?

Exactly!!!

Just ignore this fool. Obviously FCV. This is their standard BS. They claim to teach possession soccer but that's a joke. They teach the same soccer as everyone. Their goalies punt the ball just as much as everyone else, they don't play from the back. Few back passes and few switches, just a steady series of passes to march the ball downfield. Standard Direct soccer. FCV are longball merchants. Watch any DA game on YouTube and see.
