| Does anyone know whether a club player can guest play on a DA team? For example, if a player is on Arlington Red or FCV United Elite GU14-18, can they guest for the DA team? |
thats the DP designation. Development Players |
They must be an allocated DP with the club. Typically on 2nd team. |
There is no driving to NC with ECNL teams. They take a team bus. ECNL is so much better than CCL was in that regard. |
|
^^teens sitting on a team bus for 7 hours for a weekend game? This is good? There is simply no need with the competition in this area to go to regular season games on a bus each weekend.
Some tournaments--sure. But what this crap has become is absolutely ridiculous. |
Play the good teams across town? Are you crazy? Not as much money to be made with that sensible nonsense. Gas up the car and prepare to drive and drive. |
My team won a National Championship, many state./regional championships. If I had to spend my MS/HS years on a long bus ride every weekend--I would have quit the sport. We had many away tournaments, but not these leagues where kids are taking buses and planes to regular season games. We had some very famous players in my Club who certainly didn't suffer from not traveling around the US for regular season games. |
| The problem is parents who act like lemmings following each other off of a cliff. If I pull up any national ranking in any age category of the top 250 teams in the nation, I will find 20+ that are here in the DMV region. 35+ if I do a 2 hour radious from DC. Why are all these team spread between DA, ECNL, EDP, NPL, and CCL? Why does Bethesda ECNL nead to drive to Boston and why doesMcLean ECNL nead to drive to South Carolina? It is just sick. I get going to a showcase in LV or Arizona once a year but these weekend trips are just stupid. |
| The travel has nothing to do with developing good players. The rest of the world is not flying around and driving all over creation to learn the game. |
All these good teams need to start a reasonable localized league and spend their time and energy and money on learning about soccer instead of driving and paying for gas and hotels. |
+1 Stop ignoring the opportunity cost to your player of the bus rides. |
Virginia ECNL teams only travel a few weekends out of town for their season in the fall - usually one game on Saturday and then another game on Sunday. They don't travel anywhere near every weekend. And they don't travel that much at all in the spring, just for tournaments and showcases. Not at all like what you are making it sound like. That being said, I agree the local talent should really be playing each other regularly and that it is stupid for them to all be in different leagues. |
| Maybe when the USMNT fails to qualify for 2022 WC is when the whole travel system we have in the US gets blown up for good. Would love to see a sensible, rational and LOCAL competitive league (with relegation and promotion) that all clubs could participate in. |
That is club dependent. Some ECNL teams do not take a bus. |
A few weekends, a few tournaments and showcases? You make it sound like it an extra hour here and an extra buck there. It requires several weekends away, hotel nights, lots of gas, plane tickets (for real), missed school. It is silly expensive and silly time consuming and I know because I do it. Ugh. |
