Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Thought from fairfax times reporting that judge decision last week was purely procedural, not on the merits as well. Specifically, that the initial decision by VHSL was made by an individual, rather than by a committee (which is specifically required by their by-laws in cases where the punishment could rise to probation level). Was that not discussed during hearing? Items above sound like discussion on the merits - but sounds like the injunction was made purely on following-the-process level?

You are correct.

The injunction was made with the assumption they would win at trial. By allowing them to play, Robinson gets kicked out. Should Hayfield lose, Robinson parents need to push for firings in gate house

Blame VHSL for their timing. This could have been done in August, September or early October. They strategically chose week 10 to notify Hayfield and week 11 to officially ban them, in the midst of Election day. If Robinson parents want to blame anybody it should be VHSL for involving them in their poorly executed strategy. Robinson players, coaches and parents hadn't been thinking about the playoff since probably mid-September. Additionally, VHSL should have notified Robinson when they notified them that they would be included in the playoffs, that there is a possibility this could happen. Very irresponsible of VHSL.

In 2021 Freedom Principal Inez Bryant directed Overton to not dress a player because he was ineligible. Overton ignored him, twice. Overton then claimed it was an "honest mistake" (as if that clown knows what honesty is).

Investigations against Overton while he was at Freedom recommended that he face disciplinary action for other violations including use of county property for his own financial gain.

He was caught doing the exact same thing Potomac and had to pay several fines.

After Reid's "investigation" nearly 10 of Overton's illegal recruits were deemed ineligible based on residency, confirming someone had them lie and that the investigation was a sham.

A number of Overton's transfers broke the law by claiming they were homeless to get enrolled even faster.

Overton lied about his qualifications and certifications to get the security job and was still hired for the head of security role at Hayfield. And, even after word got out that he hadn't taken a required 60 hour course to get in compliance, the school's administration still ignored the issue for over 90 days.

Overton hired a coach who offered drugs to a minor and he faced no disciplinary action for such a gross oversight.

Overton threatened a mother online.

Nearly $30K from a "fundraiser" Overton promoted is unaccounted for.

The company that Overton hired for the above-mentioned "fundraiser" is run by his friend and isn't registered to actually collect funds in VA.

Overton's sham nonprofit, Playmakers Elite Athletic Training, had its status automatically terminated by the Commonwealth in 2023 and is in violation of the law for continuing to operate for at least another year after that. Virginia Attorney General’s Office or a local Commonwealth Attorney’s office should and could prosecute at any time.

Overton hasn't filed 990s for his sham nonprofit ever.

Overton has proudly compared himself to Bobby Knight (this might be the only time in his life he demonstrated a shed of self-awareness by comparing himself to a Trumper who was verbally and physically abusive to others).

Overton has consistently thrown his own players under the bus. Most recently he disputed the timing of a DeMatha transfer into Hayfield and directly contradicted the transfer's (truthful) accounting of the timeline which initially put his eligibility in doubt.

Overton tried requiring that team fees be paid only in cash or via cash app and had to be made directly to him or the "team mom," in violation of state law and FCPS regulations.

Overton allowed his staff to publicly humiliate a returning member of the Hayfield team, with the staffer ripping the player's belongings ripped out of his locker in front of team members while berating him verbally with abusive language that was racial and sexual in nature.

I’d say you know a lot about this Overton guy to not be Overton. Wonder how close you are to the situation

NP here.
A lot of this is public (or at least has been widely shared).

I’m aware of a lot that’s been shared, but I’m also aware a lot of this is propaganda n witch hunt. But ok believe whatever makes you feel good

Awwww, how sad...another poorly-educated Overton supporter who uses words (in this case "propaganda") without knowing what they mean. But please do tell us all what is the "propaganda n witch hunt" on the list of Overton transactions that was originally shared out. I will wait.

The immaturity and the insults the Hayfield haters have been displaying are just disgusting.

DP who believes that Hayfield was in violation of good sportsmanship, even if it can't be proven in a court of law that they violated VHSL rules

The steelman argument here would be, I think, that 3 different school superintendents could all think Hayfield would make their districts look bad because they will play so well. And they were all jealous of the idea that FCPS might get away with it. So they agreed with the penalities just to keep Hayfield down.

The idea would be that whoever is judging the case should have no relationship whatsoever to high school football in VA.

Southern Virginians have a reputation of thinking Northern Virginians are spoiled and rich. They don’t like people from nova.

Tens of thousands of dollars raised on a non sanctioned money platform, collected outside of the FCPS booster system by a FCPS employee with zero oversight and accountability.

How is Reid not addressing this???

Anyone who has worked on any sort of FCPS activity or sport fundraising, from football to marching band to choir to science olympiad knows how strict FCPS is when collecting money from students via booster fundraising or ticket sales.

This part has to be publicly addressed by the school board. It is a flagrant abuse of power that directly gives a middle finger to fundraising protections that are enforced by FCPS in every other club and sport, except apparently, Hayfield football.

Because like most of the rumors circulating, this is not true. Unless of course you want to investigation the 30+ other schools in the state of Virginia that used the exact same platform for fundraisers this year amongst multiple sports this past fall. I've seen at least 7 other schools that have posted pictures with the BIG CHECK from the same fundraiser. Another school (in FCPS) posted pictures for their Football, Volleyball, Boy Volleyball and Cheer teams fundraising efforts using the same vendor.

Much like VHSL, you can't prosecute on your feelings and heresay. Facts actually matter

You don't know how to spell "hearsay." Where did you get your JD from? God the Overton backers are pathetic.

Also, the platform (MoneyDolly) wasn't the problem. The problem as the original poster who brought this up noted "The company that Overton hired for the above-mentioned 'fundraiser' is run by his friend and isn't registered to actually collect funds in VA." Seriously, sit this one out.

You confuse facts with "immaturity and the insults." That's so sad. You know what is actually disgusting? Defending a man as despicable as Overton. I hope you don't have children.

While you continue your insults, just understand 'the original poster' is circulating rumors to which you've taken as facts and applied factual logic. Which still does not make the actual ACTION a fact.

So you think the platform, MollyDolly, that hundreds of other schools/sports utilize in the state of Viriginia was utilized legally by every other department in Hayfield and every other school in Virginia BUT Overton chose to use it illegaly. Like you said, sit this one out. lol

You want to get somebody fired? You miserable people need to get a grip.

VHSL is in charge. Why would they notify a team that they might get overruled by any judge in the state about anything? How strange.

Yet another person who confuses facts with insults. BTW, I am the OP of that list. And FirstTeam Sports, the company that Overton used to manage the fundraiser (Overton's own words) is not legally allowed to collect fundraising revenue for entities, and can only provide materials for fundraising activities. Overton, in public, noted that Cesar Zambrana, the founder of 1st Teamsports LLC, was his "fundraising manager" and was managing the MoneyDolly fundraiser, something he cannot do per VA law if he took money to help manage it (which he did).

How does it feel to be wrong all the time? Just curious.

When the VHSL mentioned the reason they issued the Hayfield ban, they may as well just said "because I’m white and I say so”. It sure wasn’t proven that Hayfield violated the rules.
