So far the VLC practices I’ve watched have been the most organized, energetic, and positive youth sports practices I’ve ever seen. The communication to the parents from the coaches has been great, and the practice fields at GMU are top notch.

I know it is very early and I am sure things are very coach dependent. But the 33 team seems to be very well run, nothing at all like what I have read on this thread.

Most of the other issues people had were with the Middle and High School teams.

More like the middle school teams, HS teams are top teams in the area. At least for N.Va kids. Go look at the recruiting especially 23/24

Can you elaborate more on the 2023/2024 recruiting? According to the website the 2023 year team looked fine. 2024 Dico team ranked pretty high but recruiting looked poor compared with Madlax and Baltimore Crabs.

Who is comparing to ML and Crabs? BTW Madlax 24 not great either in recruiting but different pools of players. VLC is mostly Loudoun and Fairfax and more public school.

2025: a sub-100 ranked AAA/AA kinda of team, going to recruit poorly for college
2026 Schwartz is a top 50-team, but according to some posts earlier, 2024 is the last "great team" so this team isn't good enough to be considered "elite"
2027 - at least they re-formed a team
2028 - no team, the 2 bad teams from last year both dissolved after try-outs?
2029 - the elite See team imploded and the 2nd AA Poon team is still intact, likely just a AAA/AA kind of team
2030 - rebuilding an old AA team
2031 - AAA team that performed well last year, fully intact.

Can someone confirm whether this is true? I heard that they had a 2028 team and Dico was coaching. My son is a 2028 unhappy with his current team and I was hoping that would be an option for him.

The 2026 Schwartz team is under-ranked. Not a top 10 team, but higher than 50. Schwartz is a very good coach, and with the demise of MadLax, they have added some good players to an already good team. They have a lot of families from Dulles South, Indy, PVI (you know the crowd, and the tall guy who coaches from the sidelines) that think they are very hot stuff. There may not be as good as they think they are, but a high percentage of this team will be recruited and probably will be similar to 2024.

I can confirm that VLC does not have a 28 team. Both teams folded this fall after defections in the spring and a tough summer.

Where did the 2027 team get players. Many of the old players tried out for DCE and NL.

Even with Dico taking over? That's sad. Hope he's involved in VLC and take over one of the younger teams.

I was wondering is any of the Hammers/ Team Virginia or Top Caliber kids went over?

Dico is out of the management fold and only coaching. You will have to work with the new management from the Cavs/VLC merger.

I think the core of the old Hammers moved to VLC.

Dico is a chump

Like him or not, he helped to get players recruited. Unlike the current directors.

A good number of Hammers/Team Virginia players went over to VLC. Top Caliber can't field teams in some age groups and the HS teams barely get recruited from D3. I don't think there are many Top Caliber kids going over to VLC.

Disagree. Dico is a great coach with a track record to prove it. He’s had lots of great seasons and coached some great players. Some in the PLL. You can’t lay the problems of VLC at Dico’s doorstep. The Cavs merger was a big mistake. But now that those teams are gone I think you will see VLC return to form. The only question is whether True can capitalize on VLC’s weakness this fall. If so then VLC is done - if not then VLC returns to form and is the fourth best program in the DMV (after ML, NL and DCE/BLC)
Anonymous
True’s best teams are AA, at best public HS weak Catholic school like OConnell quality. They are comparable to ML DMV (pay $3000 to play). They are far from being a serious consideration.
