Our Coach of Directors says MLS Next Academy division will do SY by 2026/27. Also, he says that otherwise the club would be forced to leave MLS Next Academy, because it wouldn't be possible to keep 2 age systems within the club.

My son plays U12 for Saint Paul Blackhawks, he is October.

Give me a break.

Its not hard to maintain different age groups. Especially when the top grouping (MLSN Homegrown) is the top tier and what everyone wants.

if if was the other way around and a single lower level league was a different grouping than everyone else. Then yes, this wouldn't work because it would be viewed as additional work with no benefit.

Literally no DOC agrees with you. None.

Well its good that you know what all DOCs are thinking.

Seriously, MLSN Homgrown teams do not have any issues finding players to fill rosters. Their only challenge is finding the best of the best players so the team is competitive.

Mlsnext would have had to build out a u8-u12 league to stay BY. Clubs will deal with two different age systems but won’t deal with the transition between BY and SY every year at u12/u13. Asking 5 months of birthdays to skip u12 every year going forward isn’t happening.

When you have what everyone wants it doesnt matter.

We are at a mlsnext homegrown club and were told we are changing to 8/1. Also heard academies are as well. Guess we will all find out when they announce either way.

Believe whatever you want, they’ll make an announcement either way.

Not if MLSN Homegrown stays BY.

Sorry hypocrite but grade in school matters.

You’re right! Let’s just go Grad Year and rip the bandaid off….

Grad Year without stupid hold backs is basically SY if they add in a rule not letting Aug birthdays play down a grade.

What about all the Sept to Dec kids who started school early should they also play up?
or just Aug kids who are a grade above most of their team?

Should be 12 month option like we have now but aligns better with school grade or just go full on grad year.

No SY 8/1-7/31 is fine it keeps the stupid hold backs out and makes it so 99.9% of the players on the field are a certain grade.

Just need to add in a rule not allowing Aug birthdays to play down and it will be 100% of players are always a specific grade. (Or they're playing up)

I have no idea what you're trying to promote? Why do you hate Aug born players?

Seriously, expect to be punched in the face by an August parent if you suggest their kid is a cheater when playing within their 12 month window regardless of grade. Americans don't take kindly to false accusations of cheating.

Hey Mister/Misses Punchy.

I'll walk up to you and say it to your face. I'll also tell you that you're pathetic for playing your kid down.

So are you saying under BY all January kids should also play up currently?

I don’t understand your logic? If a kid falls into the Aug to July age group how is anyone a cheater?

You should ask all the parents their kids age and grades on your team and their opponents. Only you can fix this. God speed.

Captain BY here lost all his battles so far ( soon to add MLSN1 and 2) So instead of lashing out to the posters who shares SY info, he has to channel his anger somewhere.

So the Aug parents become the unfortunate target, even though it is 100% within the new rule.

They already play up and get beaten by MLS1, so MLS1 will go to SY.

It is a seasonal year from 8/1 to 7/31. Nobody is playing down. Everybody is within 12 months. The only players who play down are MLSN biobanding players. I understand some clubs want to shift Q3/Q4 players down early to prepare for the SY next season. Still, they are more than 12 months older than some of the players, so they are playing down to cheat.

Unfortunately the parent that is jumping out of their pants to play down will just need to experience being ostracized for playjng down and being a loser.
