| I need to loose about 50 pounds and diet and exercise alone aren't doing it for me. After a lot of research, I think I'd like to do something called the Ideal Protein Diet. Does anyone have first-hand experience with this diet and would you please recommend the wellness center you do it through? Ideally in NoVa, but I'm willing to travel. Thanks! |
| It works! I have lost 50lbs I love it! |

Diet and Exercise alone arent doing it for you?
Youre doing it wrong then. Output needs to be greater than input. Increasing protein in your diet, while decreasing carbs and fats may help, but in the end it is still diet and exercise. Starvation doesnt work. So you need to do more than your exercise 2.5mph on the treadmill going on a decline. |
| OP here. Thanks for the brilliant insight. Yes, of course I'm doing it wrong, otherwise I'd be loosing weight. I'm good for about a week or two making healthy food choices of about 1350 calories per day and going to the gym (running 4.8 - 5.4 mph for up to 30 minutes), then family issues rear their heads again and I'm back to missing the gym for a month to make sure I'm at the hospital to care for my family. Hospital food is either bland iceberg lettuce salads, or remarkably unhealthy stuff. Thus my question about the Ideal Protein Diet, and my hope that I can get a helpful reply. |

OP, sounds like you are really frustrated and rightfully so. With with family challenges any plan you do may be a roadblock to your goals. I work with mothers and families to lose weight holistically, looking at all angles of your life, not just food. I don't focus on calories at all. I am not a therapist and I only work with people who are ready, willing, and able. I can even work with you over the phone if that fits your life schedule better. Regardless of what you choose, I wish you the best of luck in caring for yourself and your family.

Wife did it - it's expensive but works. I have seen people loose massive amounts of weight in record time. Some of them I even walked by without recognizing them. Basically it's a zero carb diet 4 stage diet, with no exercise. You be sorry if you exercise while doing it. You can do it on your own, your just have to be able to put your body in ketosis..... be careful though. |
oh, their diet is so strick, if u eat a salad, you can have no corn, tomatoes, anything that's red, fruit cannot be sweet like pineapple etc..must not have a source of sugar or carbs.. |
| I recommend the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. Worked like a charm for me and many others I have spoken to. |

Paleo diet?
Leangains? Losing more than 2lbs a week is not healthy |
| I've done it. It does work but as other poster said it's very strict. The idea is to go into ketosis and lost the weight then gradually wean off to a lo-carb lifestyle. You can do a ketosis diet on your own with Primal Fitness or Atkins books, it's not magic. When you do Ideal Protein (which is like $12/day) you are paying for someone to report to and weigh in with every week. |

I'm doing IP and have lost 17 lbs since Jan 2nd. It is strict but it works.

| Congrats, 15:26! I started yesterday and so far feel fine. Hubby is traveling, so I think the real test will be staying strong while he's back and eating normal food. |
| OP here. So I'm doing it and happy so far ... Down 12 lbs in 25 days. Slower than I had hoped for, but I feel terrific! |
| I started it Feb. 14, 2012. Today is June 16, 2012. I have lost 52 pounds and am healthier than ever. After the 1st 10 days, my blood pressure became normal and my blood glucose became normal for the first time in years. The first week is the only time it is hard as you get used to way fewer carbs. It sounds strict, but the protein products provide 18 grams of protein and you have them 3 times a day. You eat 4 cups of vegetables and 2 salads a day, which is a lot of food. You plan your own dinner (which includes lean meats or fish) and when you get close to your goal, you start planning your other meals as well. I have learned so much and like you diet and exercise didn't work. I needed to cut out the carbs - even some of the good ones (fruit and grains) in order to lose weight. After the first couple of weeks, your weight loss becomes your motivation to make good choices every day. I lose between 1.5 and 3.5 pounds each week, although during the first month it was much more. If you have struggled all of your life like I have and have metabolic syndrome (obese, high cholesterol, high blood pressure), this is the answer you have been looking for. It's $90 per week, which includes a 1 on 1 coaching session (I wouldn't skip the coaching session if you do this - it is very helpful to check-in with someone each week). I didn't increase my food budget, because I was spending a lot on fast food and starbucks before. I'm only spending grocery money on meat, fish and veggies now. As I get closer to goal, in the next phases, some of the food I haven't been eating will be added back in. Good luck! |
| Just met with a nutrician..this diet is un healthy as it taxes your kidneys and may cause cancer from too much protein. Also not sustainable longter. What she suggested is stopping the carbs after 6 pm as having carbs late in the day easily converts to fat. I am going to try this approach and will update if it works. |
