"Not focusing on winning" is not enough by itself. You have to focus on the kids learning the skills they can learn at that age. I knew a coach once who was "not focused on winning". The problem was that he wasn't focused on anything else either, so his kids never developed at all. Sounds like your coaches were focused on teaching the kids age appropriate skills which is what is important. |
| Anybody know the results against Arlington this past weekend? |
Looks like Arlington won in every age group (except U14, which isn't posted yet) - https://public.totalglobalsports.com/public/event/2297/individual-club/528/9 |
Dang, the U16 team was taken to the woodshed. |
And remember, that’s Arlington’s second team. |
I have no skin in this game - but just had a look at ECNL-RL. It seems to be a big step down in level for the ex CCL teams, especially the North division which appears very weak. |
Yes, Loudoun and Arlington will walk through the ECNL-RL and meet in the final game of the season. Hopefully, both teams can scrimmage some better talent and play in some decent tournaments. The ECNL-RL Virginia South looks much stronger with VA Legacy, Richmond Kickers, Richmond Strikers, Beach. |
Agreed - South division solid. |
| I heard that there was no competition for most Arlington’s second teams against VYS. Some games Arlington put a clinic (well-coached and quality players for second-team level of play). VYS was just kicked and run for the most part. It was a great reality check for VYS. Now, Loudoun will probably be the same way! |
Not on the girls' side just on the boys' side. But this is expected. Everyone understands there is a stark difference of quality between boys vs girls at Vienna. |
Not even true on the boys side. I went to check the scores for this epic beatdown and out of five boys age group games there is one tie, two one goal games, and two multi goal shutouts. So yeah - two of the older boys age groups have had difficulty maintaining a competitive team. |
This will always be the case in Vienna because they don't have the platform (ECNL or MLS Next) to sell the top players on staying. Best talent goes to one of the 3-4 clubs in the area where they can be recruited for college. Not all but enough to make a difference between having good teams vs. great teams. Vienna's model is not about being a pipeline to the pros, and that's fine. It's about giving a community a connection to soccer and developing the skills of younger boys and girls. Nothing wrong with that. |
Why are Loudoun and Arlington 05 girls so weak ? Both teams were hammered by Stafford. https://public.totalglobalsports.com/public/event/2302/individual-team/636/13486/9 |
| maybe stafford is the next up and coming powerhouse |
