Favorite low-calorie foods

Hi - without getting too much into the long version, I'll just say that the only thing that's ever worked for me weight loss-wise was tracking calories. Not WW or fad diets or anything else. So please tell me your favorite low calorie, yet filling, foods!

I find apples to be very filling, especially if I add a TINY bit of peanut butter.

Hmmm. Well, I've found smaller portions of higher calorie foods do the trick for me. A couple of tablespoons of guacamole, an ounce of good cheese, a handful of almonds, a few olives, a whole wheat cracker with a tbsp. of peanut butter. These are not "low-cal" but they are filling and I tend to eat fewer calories at the end of the day if I focus on having these kinds of snacks that have a bit of fat in them. Maybe not what you wanted to hear? If this won't work for you, try high fiber foods like apples with a dab of peanut butter, raw broccoli with a bit of dressing. And popcorn is a favorite when I'm craving something like chips. Buy kernels, pop in a brown paper bag in the microwave with whatever seasoning you like after.

me too!

My weakness is crunchy salty. If need to fill that void and can't afford the chips, then I'll do rice cakes or popcorn.

Another person who finds this works for her.

If I eat 1-2 oz of good cheese for lunch, some almonds, and an apple, I'm full for hours. The thought of finding a "low-calorie" food to consume subsequently doesn't enter my mind. Ergo, when I go to bed at 10 pm, my grand tally for the day is LESS than if I spent the day shoveling popcorn, rice cakes and no-cal Jello and the like into my face all day long.

Popcorn, skinny cow ice cream sandwiches, pears, watermelon.

Pickles - both standard cuke kind and the spicy pickled veggies.

I also flip out large indulgences with little ones - I feel sad and deprived with no dessert, so I have a piece of dark chocolate or a few After Eight chocolate mints and really enjoy them.

To cut calories I also eat what I want to eat first, rather than what I feel I should eat. So, if I know I am going to give in and eat a huge cookie today, I just eat the darn cookie for lunch and skip the low fat cheese and turkey sandwich, because the sandwich calories would put me over the top.
