WHIT is the only top 40 formatted station in dc. The most popular format in DC is Adult Contemporary (Hot, Urban and Rhythmic). Morning shows want overall numbers and ratings from a specific age range. The Kane Show likely targets the (18-34) and (18-49) demographics as their target audience. Considering all the stations around them with the highest ratings, I'd venture to say they don't have much competition in the (18-34) demo. They likely saw some drop in their (18-49) numbers because stations like WASH-FM, WMMJ and WHUR all likely target that demo and have gone up in the ratings recently. |
^^^ I meant WIHT (Hot 99.5) |
A beginner job? A night show in the #7 market in the country is not a beginner job. Like someone previously stated, Elizabethanny worked her way up to the job. Also Kruz left Hot to be APD in Baltimore. He went to a lower market, #21, but now he's during a drive that's more listened to and he has more responsibilities as APD. Like someone said earlier, I don't think EB is gonna leave unless Chicago, LA, or NYC comes knocking. Also yeah WIHT is the only top 40 station in DC and i think that's what's really helping TKS. Though as time goes on and more people in that demo goes to podcasts I think they will see more dips in ratings. It's weird though that there's only 1 top 40 station in DC. Where I live we have 3 and I know there are some big markets out there with at least 2. |
IMO Elizabethanny going back to TKS would be a step down. |
Kane was rude to Iggy Azalea this AM. he mentioned she was late at least 4 times. He's not a big star, he's gotta watch himself. |
I could be wrong, but isn't morning drive the most expensive from an advertisers perspective? If so, that is a pay jump for her. I do agree that because of the way that show is, it would be a step down, but financially, it would be beneficial to her. Regarding radio formats, you were right about 99.5 being the only top 40 (or going by this chart, a contemporary hits station: http://dcrtv.com/mediaw5a.html), but if you listen to the stations that play similar music, you will realize that you are not missing much between them. |
Yes, the morning drive is pretty much how a radio DJ can go from making piss poor money to actually being able to live, especially if the morning show is syndicated, like TKS. I just don't ever see EB doing that though. The nights is where she rocks and shines. The fact that she does nights on multiple stations and she's made a name for herself and still making that name. I just don't think she'd make that jump. Plus something tells me she's doing pretty ok finance-wise. |
I truly hope they get back together ![]() |
I heard the toaster wore handcuffs in court once. |

I actually found it refreshing, I don't like when they're on the metaphorical nuts of celebrity guests. |
Top 40 stations really only play the most popular current tracks on the Hot 100 (usually the top 60). Sometimes they throw in "Heat Seeker" tracks that are generating a lot of buzz but haven't yet cracked the Hot 100. On the weekends they mix in some older hits but not much. The Adult Contemporary stations play a lot of the top 40 but they also play a lot of recent classics. They are similar in the sense that they both don't really play very many hip hop or rock songs even if they're in the top 40. The only time rock or hip-hop songs get airplay are if they have somewhat of a "pop" feeling sound to them. Hot 99.5 definitely benefits from being the only Top 40 station in DC. They dominate the market for people under 25. |
Yes, I heard them joking about his prom pose pic with Iggy this morning. |
Ignore. |
Ignore the truth? |
