(DPL is where most GA clubs used to put their B team, and now runs GA2 on behalf of GA. )

All leagues, even MLSN, are going 8/1 - 7/31. There is no +60, play with your grade year, blah blah blah, etc.

Everyone needs to get over it and carry on. Good night and good day.

You dont know this.

Leagues could easily implement a rule that says players must play with their grade in school. Which is the same thing as +30

Here we go…

Use your head! It’s over. Time to move on.

Theres no club advantage in letting Aug birthday players play down a grade. Recruiters will ignore these players. theres just no upside.

Give it up and stop dreaming about playing down for wins.
Would be awesome to hear this conversation. "Son, while the rules say you should be in this age category and putting you on the first team there would make us win more games and have stronger practices, because you went to school on time unlike some of the other kids born in August, we are forcing you to play in a second team one year above your actual age category. I hope you understand that we are only doing this because there is no upside to our club to letting you play on in your age category which is 100% within the rules. I expect you to find this decision beyond moronic and will take your money to another club that will beat us every time you play against us." Clubs are dumb but not that dumb.

The conversation should go like this.

Son its unfortunate you didnt make the A team. You can still play on the B team with kids your grade.

It would be so embarrassing for a kid to have you as a parent trying to weasel them onto a grade below them team.
Then they would be assigned to B team in own age category. Clubs don't care about grades now and they won't in 2026 either. Even if you want them to, they don't and won't.

So if DPL goes to SY, can we assume that GA will also go SY?

Time is ticking for MLS Next announcing something similar ...

Clubs do care about grade because of recruiting when players get older.

Why are some people so dumb?

Recruited players are free advertising. Its how you get more players to join a club when theyre young.

Haven't you noticed this thread has gone from 3 pages in 1 day to 1 page in 3 days ?

That occurred after GA officially announced SY

You don’t understand. MLSN is so special, and the unwanted associations of implementing a cutoff associated with school year would have a catastrophic impact on their ability to sell professional players and compete internationally. Oh wait, I mean my son was born in July and I just can’t come to grips that he will move to MLSN2 next year.

You forgot to mention , the Q1 kids are especially talented and hard working .

The people that keep trying to use biobanding as a reason they should be able to play their kid down a grade dont get it.

In MLS Next the end goal is to play professionally and ideally as young as possible. When you sign your kid up to be biobanded its the kiss of death for their chances at playing professionally. You dont look good dunking on younger players. People feel bad for your kid because they're being used as a crash test dummy for other players to get noticed.

Recruiters will have the same type of revolution watching an older player playing down a grade for wins.

Players aren't allowed to play down. Playing down is only allowed in MLSN late developers.

Under BY you are coreect.

Under the new SY 1 and maybe 2 months of players can play on a team with players their age or a team with players a grade lower. Unfortunately this is one of the by products of switching from BY to SY.

One parent is jumping out of their pants with excitement that their kid can play down a grade. Everyone else is trying to convince them that this is not a smart thing to do. But they wont listen

Call it whatever you want in the end biobanding and playing down are the same thing. The difference is in a league setup to identify pro players biobanding is a bad thing. However in a league setup for recruiting playing down can be a serious advantage.

Stop talking age in one part of your reply and grade in the other. it's a 12-month age group. the grade doesn't matter. just as the grade hasn't matter the last 7 years during BY - or at least it didn't matter to any Jan-July parent that had their player a grade older than Aug-Dec players. But now it's an issue? If your August kid is a Sophomore and another August did is a freshman on your kids team, next year they will still be on the same team. They are the same age in the Aug 1st to July 31st age group. Grade has nothing to do with it.

Here are August kids on teams that are freshman and Sept kids on the same team that are sophomores. it's rare but it happens. it's an age group seperated by a 12-month window. same 12-month window that BY had an no issue of two different grades (which happened all the time on every team in the country).

Under BY you can play down on grade because grades aren't relevant to the age cutoff. Note that Sept to Dec kids would be considered playing up now and they are not. This fascination and jealousy with August kids that went to school on time by a parent is pathetic.

Clubs wont allow this and leagues will provide some kind of rule saying nope. The reason why is the only person benefiting is the player playing down. And they're not even benefiting they're trading shot term wins for long term recruitability.

if there was a way clubs made more money allowing players to play down I could see it happening. But there isn't. In fact it would probabaly piss off all the parents on the grade down team.

Please stop. You’re the only one who thinks this and if you really believe this will happen, great! Wait for the leagues to announce that rule. You don’t need to convince us.

Also I find it rich that youre trying to say its a 12 month Seasonal Year which is completely independent of grade in school. When 6 months ago you were saying that we had to switch from BY to SY because there was so many trapped players playing up a grade.

Sorry hypocrite but grade in school matters.
