Is anyone talking to other parents that have no idea this is all going on?? I talked to someone who was insisting that they couldn’t change the age date and it was illegal…. Wow!
It depends on when parents kids were born. If Jan-July and their kid is a starter nothing will probabaly change for them. So why worry about it.
Probably the players that most need a backup team would be older Jan-Jul starters. It will be too late around May when a couple get replaced and demoted or it becomes clear that they will have a decent cut in playing time for next year. |
So i went back and looked it up. You are correct wildcards are no longer used on the girls side. Although it does appear to be used in ECRL and NorCal for some reason. But showcases do still count when calculating PPG which is what ECNL uses to determine if extra playoff spots should be given. So in the end Yes showcase results matter if your team is on the bubble in regional league results. This is why you cant have players playing down at showcases. More info here... ECNL (Elite Club National League) PPG (performance points) includes points earned from conference games and national event games played throughout the season, which can include games played at national showcases, and these points are used to rank teams for post-season competition. |

News that nobody cares anymore https://dpleague.org/birth-year-change/ (DPL is where most GA clubs used to put their B team, and now runs GA2 on behalf of GA. ) |
All leagues, even MLSN, are going 8/1 - 7/31. There is no +60, play with your grade year, blah blah blah, etc. Everyone needs to get over it and carry on. Good night and good day. |
You dont know this. Leagues could easily implement a rule that says players must play with their grade in school. Which is the same thing as +30 |
Here we go… Use your head! It’s over. Time to move on. |
I agree it is over, all signs point to it. At this point it would be surprising if they don’t to SY. |
Theres no club advantage in letting Aug birthday players play down a grade. Recruiters will ignore these players. theres just no upside. Give it up and stop dreaming about playing down for wins. |
You don’t understand. MLSN is so special, and the unwanted associations of implementing a cutoff associated with school year would have a catastrophic impact on their ability to sell professional players and compete internationally. Oh wait, I mean my son was born in July and I just can’t come to grips that he will move to MLSN2 next year. |
You can use biobanding to cheat. We have a April biobanding player in our team. |
| MLS next BY diehards pretty quiet lately… |
Would be awesome to hear this conversation. "Son, while the rules say you should be in this age category and putting you on the first team there would make us win more games and have stronger practices, because you went to school on time unlike some of the other kids born in August, we are forcing you to play in a second team one year above your actual age category. I hope you understand that we are only doing this because there is no upside to our club to letting you play on in your age category which is 100% within the rules. I expect you to find this decision beyond moronic and will take your money to another club that will beat us every time you play against us." Clubs are dumb but not that dumb. |

In Spain, the birth date range for each age category is two years. This actually has the effect of reducing RAE somewhat, in my opinion.
For example, U16 last season was 2009 and 2010. This season, U16 is 2010 and 2011. As an example, my son was born late December 2010. This means last season he would be very young, but this season he would be older than all of the 2011s at a minimum. This also means the teams don’t stay together every season, which allows clubs and coaches to add or remove players. There is no incentive for a coach to only pick the older kids, because today’s older kids are next year’s younger kids. Similarly, there is no incentive to discount or ignore the younger kids, because next season they will be the older kids and likely form the backbone of the team. |
The conversation should go like this. Son its unfortunate you didnt make the A team. You can still play on the B team with kids your grade. It would be so embarrassing for a kid to have you as a parent trying to weasel them onto a grade below them team. |
