Physicians Assistant yelling “HELP ME” while stealing a CitiBike ?

It’s so hard for the men’s supporters to hide their hands and move on. It’s so hard to accept that the PA made the correct choices in the follow up and will not be seriously penalized for stuff she didn’t do. It’s a shame, huh?

Why would she not go after them legally? Why would she want the next white woman to walk out of the hospital to have to experience this angry mob of black men setting upon her with malicious intentions and wanting to harm her.

Why would she want to have a mob of angry black men who want only to harm white women and have only malicious intent to be on the street near her work where they can be violent towards others? She didn't shy away from immediately hiring a lawyer to deal with the employent issue, why wouldn't she press charges against this violent mob of men who set out to terrorize, assault, violate, harrass and harm her? while she managed to escape, the next woman might not be so fortunate. If that is what the video so clearly shows according to you and that no other possible interpretation is even believeable, then there should be no issue in having them arrested and making the area safer for her and other women she works with.

She clearly wants to go back to work given her immediate decision to hire an employment lawyer - why would she do that when she will need to fear for her life coming to and from work everyday due to the mob of angry black men who want to channel their rage against her and threaten her and her fetuses life?

It’s funny how you believe the justice system would be totally fair to the woman in this situation when I am absolutely positive that you have posted ranting screeds in the past about how biased and unfair the justice system is.

Well not, I haven't posted rants about the justice system but you think the justice system is skewed towards being fairer to young black men over white women?

Stop making this about race. They should not get a free pass because of a flawed Justice system. She has been tried and condemned. This young man grabbed the bike she was on to push it in the rack with her on it. If she did that to him, you’d scream assault.

The thing is, nobody is screaming assault except for the raging lunatics on this board. Her lawyer is stating it's a misunderstanding. End of that discussion. He has also apparently laid out exactly what their plans are, none of it involves assault, theft or anything else against the other party in that video. You can put your pitchforks down now.

See, liar, no one has pitchforks. No one has invested any energy to determine an accurate identification or address for any of the men. People seem glad her counsel is so competent.

No one is going to listen to you when you have your what? Twentieth fit? So you can keep stamping your hoof and whining about how this or that discussion is over. No one is required to follow your lead.

+1

That misogynist PP is so ridiculous. What a raging liar she is.

We all know what happened here. He doesn’t need to say anything further.

If there was a world in which the young men were remotely close to being victims themselves, attorneys would be falling all over themselves to take their cases. Hence the obvious truth of the matter.

This is wise. It will come out that she rented the bike first no matter what, during the effort to clear her name and sue the twitter bluechecks. There's no need to go after the young men directly to prove what will be proven anyway in the course of tackling these other targets. And you're right, they're too young to have much in the way of assets, and meanwhile she avoids looking like a racist and instead looks like someone who takes the high road.

It’s not about the fact that she was a woman, it’s that she was white. In the minds of many, white people are expected to accept being the victim of crime when the offender is Black, and they get criticized even for calling the police, to say nothing of defending themselves. To these activists, ruining the PA’s life is even *better* if she obviously did nothing wrong. People might not care if she had it coming, but ruining an innocent person’s life, forcing her to lose her job and go into hiding? Now *that* sends a real message to anyone else who might be tempted to justifiably resist crimes.

I now think she's nuts to have engaged with them, and that they are nuts for messing with a pregnant woman.

Bottom line, normal misunderstandings start and end with comparing notes/info/exchanging pleasantries/apology. When you see you are dealing with a crazy person- OR a setup situation, you disengage and give the crazy person what they want.

I NEVER would have engaged with someone (especially a group) like this when pregnant- but I also wouldn't have been trying to use a shared bike app on those streets while pregnant so her risk tolerance is shocking to me- though she does not deserve outfall from this- at least with the info we have now. Is this group of people identified yet and if not why not?

Receipts tell the story, as far as I am concerned.

You are engaging in a classic case of victim blaming. Whatever happened to women standing up for themselves? They should just cower and/or walk away?

As it should be. There is absolutely no need to ruin more lives over a misunderstanding. One person being treated this way is too many.

And if this wasn't a misunderstanding, but a deliberate effort to find a white woman to harass (and cause the internet to also harass) as an exercise in "punching up" (a.k.a. channeling rage upon the head of a convenient scapegoat)? Still ok for these guys to face zero consequences, and for others to know they can continue to target women without censure?

The woman who was actually present and involved has said it was a misunderstanding. While you may not respect her enough to believe her or to think she is capable of assessing the situation, her lawyer does. Dismissing what she says to make up a false narrative that is based on solely on personal assumptions and biases and not on fact to say this was a deliberate act to find a white woman to harrass is no better than making up a false narrative that she was a racist stealing a bike.

The woman has spoken through her lawyer and stated her interpretation and what she wants from this. Lets give her basic respect that she is a competent and capable woman who is able to understand and interpret the situation she was in and to state her wants and needs.

It was not a misunderstanding. It looked very calculated. She is just trying to play nice per her lawyer as she is now being targeted because of her race and because of her skin color there was no way she could be in the right. This is clearly racism at its finest. These men need to step up. The hospital and local businesses and police need to release any security footage and the bike company needs to produce records from both parties. Get an answer to who was right. That man had no right to grab the bike with her on it and shove it back into the holder because he wanted it. And his friend making the horrible comments should also be held accountable. and, if she stole the bike that’s between her and the police and company, not her employer as she was off duty not on hospital property.

She didn't steal the bike. A misunderstanding means that people misinterpreted the situation, it happens every day. It doesn't mean she or they had to be criminals. The lawyer has likely already looked into much of it and has concluded and stated it was a misunderstanding.

They are taking the high road. He forced the bike back into the rack with her on it. That is assault. Misunderstanding would be him nicely approaching her saying hey I rented this bike, here is my receipt, could I have my bike back please? If she refuses you contact customer support and get a new bike. You don’t grab a bike someone is on to shove it in the rack to demand the bike. You don’t scream nasty comments to her. She clearly rented that bike. The men refuse to step up which makes it more suspicious. She has no choice but to try to clean this up by playing nice. She’s not getting any support from the company, her employer or the police. She is on her own. And, the men who refuse to identify themselves have all the activists after her.

Not all misunderstadings are calm. THere was clearly a mild confrontation which makes sense if he thought he had paid for a bike she was taking (even if he was wrong - that is his misunderstading). If I thought someone was taking a bike I had paid for, I might grab the handle too and relock it to keep them from riding away as people have said that it can cost over $1200 if someone takes a bike you paid for. I saw another video where a man did try to steal a Ciibike and the rightful renter actually assaulted him and punched him to get him off the bike. A misunderstanding means you are acting based on a misperception of events. As her lawyer said as soon as she sat on the bike, they did verbally start to tell her that they had paid for it and that it was their bike - before she had even finished paying for it and unlocked it. But then after they told her that it was their bike, she rolled it back and started to leave, so the party beleiving it was under their account, grabbed the handle bars to keep her from taking it.

Based on her lawyers emphasis on the word 'young', I believe these men could be minors. It seems from the information the lawyer has, the young men may have been in touch with him or the police already. Just because they haven't identified themselves publicly, doesn't mean no one knows who they are. I know I am the only one (on here) who believes they could be anything other than evil, malicious, rage-filled, racist criminals but they may well have reached out, apologized for being rude and for the misunderstanding, and all is good between the parties.

The man knew exactly how Citibike rentals work, as evidenced by how he knew to redock her bike and then swipe his own phone over the reader. It's impossible to argue he "misunderstood" how Citibikes work and/or whether you can reserve them.

No. Her lawyer concluded she will look like a racist if she goes after them. He is advising her not to because of that, and rightfully so. But he can’t say that, so he’s framing it as a “misunderstanding.”

She could have gone to the police and charged them long before any video was posted or she was seen in any way. She is a pregnant woman attacked violently by a mob of men who intended to cause her grevious harm and terrorize and threaten her life and she just decided to get off the one bike, turn her back to someone who was the closest and worst of this violent, raging mob, and get on another bike right there? Does that really make sense? That is not how someone whose life and fetuses life are in mortal danger from a mob of men terrorizing and assaulting them acts. Did she call 911? Did her colleague and the other witness call 911 while the mob was channeling their rage onto her? Long before the video went viral, what was her response and the response of those around her to this terrorizing rage filled assault just outside her workplace by a threatening and malicious mob? Did she tell her workplace and security so they could protect her and others in coming or leaving work the next day? Did she call in and take leave to process the trauma?

You realize this stuff happens all the time there and police do nothing. She hjust wanted to move on. I would not have called the police.

That is an interesting perspective. On one hand we have a widely held view by many on here in other posts that police discriminate and are quite aggressive in their action against black men and yet now on this post we have the view that police will not do anything if a mob of black men violently attack a white woman. Quite contradictory. Where are all the posters who have the view that police do discriminate against black men?

How could she move on knowing this violent, terrorizing, rage-filled mob could be waiting for her tomorrow or the next day?

There is a mob after her now because she is white. This is not a race issue. If this was a white man attacking her she still would have been condemned except just not as a racist. Take race out of it already. There were no racial slurs on her part or theirs. Not everything is about race. This was about entitlement. I had something far wrong happen in ny and I can tell you the court system is a joke. The judges don’t listen or care and in our situation let something very wrong happen. So, if this happened to me, I would not think to call the police and I’d just be upset, go home and move on.

Sorry, but "white women's tears" and "Emmet Till" were very much a part of the mob attack. The four guys even mocked her tears and said they were fake.
