No one except you has made either of those statements.

I am one of the few posters who believes her and thinks she is competent and able to describe accurately the situation she was involved in.

It is a very reasonable question, and I’m not the only one curious. You won’t answer it because you’re a misogynist who doesn’t believe women, and you can’t answer the question without displaying your misogyny further. And you don’t believe her.

We see through you.

As it should be. There is absolutely no need to ruin more lives over a misunderstanding. One person being treated this way is too many.

And if this wasn't a misunderstanding, but a deliberate effort to find a white woman to harass (and cause the internet to also harass) as an exercise in "punching up" (a.k.a. channeling rage upon the head of a convenient scapegoat)? Still ok for these guys to face zero consequences, and for others to know they can continue to target women without censure?

The woman who was actually present and involved has said it was a misunderstanding. While you may not respect her enough to believe her or to think she is capable of assessing the situation, her lawyer does. Dismissing what she says to make up a false narrative that is based on solely on personal assumptions and biases and not on fact to say this was a deliberate act to find a white woman to harrass is no better than making up a false narrative that she was a racist stealing a bike.

The woman has spoken through her lawyer and stated her interpretation and what she wants from this. Lets give her basic respect that she is a competent and capable woman who is able to understand and interpret the situation she was in and to state her wants and needs.

It was not a misunderstanding. It looked very calculated. She is just trying to play nice per her lawyer as she is now being targeted because of her race and because of her skin color there was no way she could be in the right. This is clearly racism at its finest. These men need to step up. The hospital and local businesses and police need to release any security footage and the bike company needs to produce records from both parties. Get an answer to who was right. That man had no right to grab the bike with her on it and shove it back into the holder because he wanted it. And his friend making the horrible comments should also be held accountable. and, if she stole the bike that’s between her and the police and company, not her employer as she was off duty not on hospital property.

She didn't steal the bike. A misunderstanding means that people misinterpreted the situation, it happens every day. It doesn't mean she or they had to be criminals. The lawyer has likely already looked into much of it and has concluded and stated it was a misunderstanding.

No. Her lawyer concluded she will look like a racist if she goes after them. He is advising her not to because of that, and rightfully so. But he can’t say that, so he’s framing it as a “misunderstanding.”

She could have gone to the police and charged them long before any video was posted or she was seen in any way. She is a pregnant woman attacked violently by a mob of men who intended to cause her grevious harm and terrorize and threaten her life and she just decided to get off the one bike, turn her back to someone who was the closest and worst of this violent, raging mob, and get on another bike right there? Does that really make sense? That is not how someone whose life and fetuses life are in mortal danger from a mob of men terrorizing and assaulting them acts. Did she call 911? Did her colleague and the other witness call 911 while the mob was channeling their rage onto her? Long before the video went viral, what was her response and the response of those around her to this terrorizing rage filled assault just outside her workplace by a threatening and malicious mob? Did she tell her workplace and security so they could protect her and others in coming or leaving work the next day? Did she call in and take leave to process the trauma?

You realize this stuff happens all the time there and police do nothing. She hjust wanted to move on. I would not have called the police.

That is an interesting perspective. On one hand we have a widely held view by many on here in other posts that police discriminate and are quite aggressive in their action against black men and yet now on this post we have the view that police will not do anything if a mob of black men violently attack a white woman. Quite contradictory. Where are all the posters who have the view that police do discriminate against black men?

How could she move on knowing this violent, terrorizing, rage-filled mob could be waiting for her tomorrow or the next day?

There is a mob after her now because she is white. This is not a race issue. If this was a white man attacking her she still would have been condemned except just not as a racist. Take race out of it already. There were no racial slurs on her part or theirs. Not everything is about race. This was about entitlement. I had something far wrong happen in ny and I can tell you the court system is a joke. The judges don’t listen or care and in our situation let something very wrong happen. So, if this happened to me, I would not think to call the police and I’d just be upset, go home and move on.

I think she was tired after a long day at a very rough hospital and did not handle it the best way either but she should not be condemned and her life ruined over this and the one man grabbing the bike and the other verbally attacking her should be held accountable.

Why would she want the next white woman to walk out of the hospital to have to experience this angry mob of black men setting upon her with malicious intentions and wanting to harm her.

Why would she want to have a mob of angry black men who want only to harm white women and have only malicious intent to be on the street near her work where they can be violent towards others? She clearly wants to go back to work given her immediate decision to hire an employment lawyer - why would she do that when she will need to fear for her life coming to and from work everyday due to the mob of angry black men who want to channel their rage against her and threaten her and her fetuses life?

It’s funny how you believe the justice system would be totally fair to the woman in this situation when I am absolutely positive that you have posted ranting screeds in the past about how biased and unfair the justice system is.

Well not, I haven't posted rants about the justice system but you think the justice system is skewed towards being fairer to young black men over white women?

Stop making this about race. They should not get a free pass because of a flawed Justice system. She has been tried and condemned. This young man grabbed the bike she was on to push it in the rack with her on it. If she did that to him, you’d scream assault.

The thing is, nobody is screaming assault except for the raging lunatics on this board. Her lawyer is stating it's a misunderstanding. End of that discussion. He has also apparently laid out exactly what their plans are, none of it involves assault, theft or anything else against the other party in that video. You can put your pitchforks down now.

I usually do not post often because English is not my first language, but I remember what happened to the bakery who called the cops on three black people who tried to steal wine. Oberlin college including professors and students lead the mob to the bakery accusing them of racism, screaming and shouting. They would print flyers accusing owners of discrimination, etc. I am glad that the bakery sued the college and won millions of dollars in the end. But I think it took them years.

They are taking the high road. He forced the bike back into the rack with her on it. That is assault. Misunderstanding would be him nicely approaching her saying hey I rented this bike, here is my receipt, could I have my bike back please? If she refuses you contact customer support and get a new bike. You don’t grab a bike someone is on to shove it in the rack to demand the bike. You don’t scream nasty comments to her. She clearly rented that bike. The men refuse to step up which makes it more suspicious. She has no choice but to try to clean this up by playing nice. She’s not getting any support from the company, her employer or the police. She is on her own. And, the men who refuse to identify themselves have all the activists after her.

Not all misunderstadings are calm. THere was clearly a mild confrontation which makes sense if he thought he had paid for a bike she was taking (even if he was wrong - that is his misunderstading). If I thought someone was taking a bike I had paid for, I might grab the handle too and relock it to keep them from riding away as people have said that it can cost over $1200 if someone takes a bike you paid for. I saw another video where a man did try to steal a Ciibike and the rightful renter actually assaulted him and punched him to get him off the bike. A misunderstanding means you are acting based on a misperception of events. As her lawyer said as soon as she sat on the bike, they did verbally start to tell her that they had paid for it and that it was their bike - before she had even finished paying for it and unlocked it. But then after they told her that it was their bike, she rolled it back and started to leave, so the party beleiving it was under their account, grabbed the handle bars to keep her from taking it.

Based on her lawyers emphasis on the word 'young', I believe these men could be minors. It seems from the information the lawyer has, the young men may have been in touch with him or the police already. Just because they haven't identified themselves publicly, doesn't mean no one knows who they are. I know I am the only one (on here) who believes they could be anything other than evil, malicious, rage-filled, racist criminals but they may well have reached out, apologized for being rude and for the misunderstanding, and all is good between the parties.

If it was rented she could not override the rental. It sounds like he planned to rent it but she got it first. You never put your hands on a bike or person. You don’t own that bike. This was not a misunderstanding and he should have rented another bike.

Interstingly I foud a forum where people post their issues with Citibike and one of the complaints I saw (from awhile ago) was that two people could rent the same bike at the same time due to what was described on the forum as a glitch. I don't know that is what happened here and it is possible the young men thought they had retend the bike or where in the process of renting the bike and she beat them to it or that they misunderstood how the rental and paying process works. For example they were already paying before she sat on the bike. Those are all misunderstanding and teens / young men and women don't always realize immediately that they have misunderstood. I disagree that you never put your hands on a bike. If someone is taking a bike that I think is going to cost me $1200, damn straight I am putting my hands on that bike! Not everyone is rich and for many that amount of money is well worth a confrontation.

Neither was stealing that bike. It very much could be a glitch in the software but you don’t handle the situation by grabbing a bike with a person on it. If they were paying and she walked up, you just say, hey I am renting this bike. So, where is the video of the before. What is the man’s version. Something is not right if he will not come out and say his side.

Can anyone point me to any commentary or Twitter from any high-profile progressives condemning the mob harassing the PA and forcing her into hiding? This has been criticized and covered by Matt Walsh and other right-wingers, but I am wondering if any left-leaning or progressive commentators have condemned what happened here. I haven’t seen anything but I may have missed it. TIA.

The lawyer is taking the high road to resolve this and save her job. That is his job. It is assault if he grabs the bike she is on to shove it back on the rack with her on it. He in no way should have put his hands on her or the bike. She should not have grabbed his phone but she may have been trying to look at his receipt to clarify things. Both handled the situation wrong. Misunderstanding is a nice clean up term but he instigated it and put it online.

You’re determined to lie. It’s odd, but so are you.

That is what the woman said happened through her lawyer. That she walked up and sat on the bike before paying and the young man told her hey, I paid for that bike, that is my bike. She wa tired and just wanted to get home and so she continued in the app and was able to pay for the bike but the young man also thought he had paid for the bike and had told her that when she first got on the bike and before she paid. Then when she unlocked it and started to pull back, he grabbed the handle and pushed it back into the lock as he thought he had paid for it and had told her that when she first arrived at the bikes. That is the misunderstanding. He thought he had paid and told her that when she first got on the bike before she paid. He was wrong and she was able to pull back. He didn't know he was wrong so he tried to keep her from leaving with a bike he thought he had paid for.

No one is going to listen to you when you have your what? Twentieth fit? So you can keep stamping your hoof and whining about how this or that discussion is over. No one is required to follow your lead.

“HELP ME” is a call to violence.

Bottom line is these men need to man up, provide the rest of the videos of the incident, share their side and provide the receipt. This was either a glitch or he wanted that particular bike, she got to it first and rented it and when he saw her taking it got upset and felt entitled to that bike.
