I can't tell what's real and what's in Ethan's head. Ethan is one of those paranoid insecure tech titans who grew up a dork. He's such a dork that he's vacationing with a fake friend alpha dog. He's rich but the same dork he was in high school, so his paranoia and insecurity fuels these crazy thoughts. It's like when insecure people hear random people chuckling they worry it's people laughing at them.

Cam is trying to "manage" Ethan's fortune, which means skimming a boatload of management fees annually. There is zero chance a finance shark like him is dumb enough to risk a once in a lifetime windfall of money like that trying to hook up with his rich buddy's mediocre looking wife. You think Mark Zuckerberg's buddies are trying to sleep with his mediocre looking wife? There are no bragging rights in that, you'd be cut off by a filthy rich buddy, he would be able to smear your reputation in the industry, and everyone would think you're an idiot. And I am pretty sure even Cam admitted he only goes for prostitutes.

There isn't a wife on the planet that would believe their husband after they found a used condom wrapper on their hotel room couch. Especially after he never answered his phone and admitted to using molly, then was evasive about the full scope of the evening.

The problem with all of this for me is that Harper thinks Cam is gross and terrible. I don’t think she’s attracted to him or that she could go through with this. Also there is absolutely nothing about their behavior or demeanor afterward that seems like they did something illicit. They are both calm and relaxed.

I think this is all in Ethan’s head and I think that’s the point.

It has nothing to do with sexual attraction for either of them. It’s the convenient opportunity. (Drunk) women in pain routinely do things like this to make a (cheating/hurtful) spouse feel some of the pain and hurt they feel. And for Cam, it’s literally his lifelong M.O. Harper is obviously not his type, it’s for the sport of getting over on his rich/smarter “friend” — something he’s been doing their freshman year of college nearly 20 years ago.
