Snow day

They always cancel more school than they should for the first storm. If it happens again they will be more reasonable. Watch.

Reid is not my favorite but this is not her....she can't plow neighborhoods you sound foolish

What annoys me is waiting so long to announce it!

6:30 annoys you....man you would like FCPS in 2003....it was the morning of very rarely an evening call.

Yeah, but it’s not 2003 and we don’t do it like that anymore. It seems like they already knew it was going to be closed but held on to that information for longer than necessary.

I feel like you are just annoyed at another snow day and are doing your freak out about anything at this point.

No, my kid is a teenager. I think the parents of early elementary are the ones that are mad about that.

Somebody is angry. Womp womp.

The question is why aren’t YOU angry at VDOT not doing their jobs?

NP and I am mad at VDOT and not FCPS. I went on VDOT website and filed a complaint. I hope you all do to....not that it will do anything, but oh well.

The ones who we should be complaining to are McKay and Youngkin. VDOT has failed them as well as us. If there were any funding or staffing or rules changes made at VDOT, then Younkin can see the result. Right now.

I remember being enraged when my kid was in kindergarten. He is now in high school. Some years we have more snow than others. This area is not well equipped for snow. It is what it is.

I remember being so upset when school closes when it was just cold, not even snow.

1-2" in 2016 crippled DC. We are not a snow town. We aren't in Appalachia, bud.

If we got a lot of snow, we would all be a little more understanding. But this storm wasn't a boom. We got 5-7" of nice powdery snow in the county, which is more than 0" but really not a huge amount. And somehow the plwoing was abysmal. Even worse than might be expected.

They need to close the schools with bad roads and open the other 95% of the schools. This is stupid.

Sorry pal....my street is still not plowed and I know we aren't the only ones.

Your street isn't going to get plowed at this point. We're beyond that.

Why can't they come through with some salt or sand? My theory is they somehow don't have any more readily available. Nothing else makes sense.

As a doctor do you understand how much salt and sand they would have to put down to clear 6 inches of snow. You have to do it first. Go get some salt and see how much you have to use.

However I do think a 2 hour delay would have be fine. As long as they can see where they are stepping.

Correct. It's because they know this area is transient and many residents aren't ready to deal with the first snow. Of course DCUM knows better, has all the ski coats, mittens and woolly hats at the ready, and is itching to show off their AWD at the first snowflake... but normal people aren't. So when the second snow arrives, school systems get a little tighter.

Everybody here needs to stop arguing about bullshit. We are adults, so how about we discuss this without getting so angry at one another, eh?

Have to agree, and plenty of warning for a known storm coming that did not exceed the forecast. I had a family event to drive to Friday and even Friday trucks were out treating roads and plows lining up up and down the I-95 corridor. Not sure how/why the response here has been so lacking.

Don’t see why although a good amount of teachers who live in other counties now have kids who are off when they aren’t so I bet there will be lots of callouts.

Is VDOT under Youngkin?
There’s your answer

You have to call VDOT directly and then they will come at this point

This is beside the point, but does FCPS really have 45,000 bus stops like her statement says?
