I don't see how EagleStix could be overrated unless the computer that processed the algorithm made a mistake. It's all a math exercise.

Look at their results from last year and you can figure out why. They started off great, beating m&d and mdu, but then they played a horrible bunch of nobodies and then were getting smoked by good teams later on in the season. Talented squad, will still be highly ranked, but they will not be #4 by the end of the fall.

If I understand correctly, we're waiting for the same computer that supposedly overrated EagleStix last year to give us an accurate rating this year?

There will be a new rating this year, and it will just be as accurate as the math permits. ES was ranked 4th last year because of a mostly crap schedule that allowed them to pile on wins and goal differential. As the year progressed they started losing against good teams, sometimes badly. So you could say that they were overrated last year for sure.

Come this year, SW beating ES is being used to show that SW is somehow elite all of a sudden. Why? Based on last year’s #4 ranking…

No, you cannot say they were overrated last year. Their rating was perfectly accurate, just like every other team's rating.

Lol, they were overrated last year. There, I said it.

Can you let me know I might go about having my team be overrated this year? Will just piling on some wins against crap teams do the trick?

Several clubs have fly ins. Throw in Heros and M&D into that group.

Move those teams to the national teams rankings page.

Here you go:
-ES finished 4th last year
-4th in the country is considered to be good, as it is a high ranking (rating)
-ES was able to maintain this ranking despite having a bad summer and getting beat by almost every decent team they played
-How was this accomplished? By also playing teams no one has heard of and running up the score. Teams like #90 shipyard, #46 Team one wildcat, or the #91 true ballers.
-The algo is the best we’ve got, but definitely not perfect. Given the facts above and the overall trajectory of that team, one could easily say they are too highly ranked, as in overrated.

It looks like the three games with #90 shipyard (no data), #46 Team one wildcat (+2.50), and #91 true ballers (-3.33) actually made the ES rating slightly worse. Any other ideas?

The ES rating may be misstated because there are a bunch of games that are not counting towards the rating math. I don't know why that is, nor have I done the math, but it could change their rating, either positively or negatively. If the updated math showed their rating should have been lower then it would be accurate to suggest they were overrated last year.

Actually you are correct. Beating crappy teams by a wide margin is one way to "cheat" the rankings and get a better rating.

If you really think ES is the 4th best team in the country, I have a bridge to sell you.

I always thought that "Beating crappy teams by a wide margin" would lower your ratings. isn't it built off of how strong the teams you are going up against is?

You are right! Beating crappy teams is not the correct description. Beating mediocre teams by a wide margin. Teams rated in mid to high 80's. Beating crappy teams rated in the 70's will kill your rankings.

So many words and twisted explanations to avoid admitting the simple fact that Skywalkers got better
Anonymous
Just stop... even by the end of last NGLL & summer Skywalkers was doing better. They lost to heros by one in OT in NGLL playoffs and lost by one at Summer genesis in OT in playoffs to the team that lost to M&D in the championship by 1. They tied M&D a few weeks ago. And while it was a scrimmage M&D didn't treat it that way. SW lost to M&D by one sunday with M&D having several girls with zero or very limited playtime in the playoff game(s) so M&D 100% played to win. In both games SW was actually winning with under 20 seconds left and lost the final draws. SW was tied with NXT until the last two minutes of the games. They have def improved. Always room for more improvement but stronger. M&D finally has MDU's number on scoring than stalling for significant amounts of time and wasting clock by walking as slow as possible to the draw circle and moving girls on and off the circle right as the draw is set. The refs pinged them for it twice sunday. It's terrible for coaches to have these girls stalling for 5-6-8-10 minutes at a time. They'll be in high school next year. Just play the way they'll play in the future. M&D has beaten MDU everytime they've played now since last NGLL playoff. Cippermine still did well sunday and had a closer game with M&D then the score indicated even with losing some players this year. Heros will come out better next tournament. Gaps between MDU & M&D will start to close and other teams will get stronger. It's just what happens. M&D also has an out of state player (for the second time in two years) as does Heros. Must be the way now l.

Will high school club games use shot clocks?

IAAM has shot clock. Pretty sure WCAC also has it.

The algorithm assigns credit for a maximum 10-goal victory, regardless of the actual margin. If a team rated 95 defeats a team rated 80 by 15 goals, which aligns with expectations, the algorithm treats this as underperforming by 5 goals, resulting in a decrease in the team's rating. From a ratings perspective, this outcome is equivalent to losing to a similarly rated team by 5 goals. Therefore, playing lower-rated teams does not necessarily enhance a team's rating. To increase their rating, a team must exceed the model's expectations, which becomes more challenging when there is a cap on the goal differential.

M&D cuts corners all over the field. They stall, they hold in the circle, they hold in the 8 meter. It all adds up.
