I would say community service at that hospital and an apology. Financially locking them up for this makes no sense for the community. Nor is it worth ruining anyone’s life over. He did not appear violent but appeared poor judgement. |
You realize this stuff happens all the time there and police do nothing. She hjust wanted to move on. I would not have called the police. |
Not all misunderstadings are calm. THere was clearly a mild confrontation which makes sense if he thought he had paid for a bike she was taking (even if he was wrong - that is his misunderstading). If I thought someone was taking a bike I had paid for, I might grab the handle too and relock it to keep them from riding away as people have said that it can cost over $1200 if someone takes a bike you paid for. I saw another video where a man did try to steal a Ciibike and the rightful renter actually assaulted him and punched him to get him off the bike. A misunderstanding means you are acting based on a misperception of events. As her lawyer said as soon as she sat on the bike, they did verbally start to tell her that they had paid for it and that it was their bike - before she had even finished paying for it and unlocked it. But then after they told her that it was their bike, she rolled it back and started to leave, so the party beleiving it was under their account, grabbed the handle bars to keep her from taking it. Based on her lawyers emphasis on the word 'young', I believe these men could be minors. It seems from the information the lawyer has, the young men may have been in touch with him or the police already. Just because they haven't identified themselves publicly, doesn't mean no one knows who they are. I know I am the only one (on here) who believes they could be anything other than evil, malicious, rage-filled, racist criminals but they may well have reached out, apologized for being rude and for the misunderstanding, and all is good between the parties. |
You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. |
If it was rented she could not override the rental. It sounds like he planned to rent it but she got it first. You never put your hands on a bike or person. You don’t own that bike. This was not a misunderstanding and he should have rented another bike. |
I thought this woman was a dick until further details came out.
I now think she's nuts to have engaged with them, and that they are nuts for messing with a pregnant woman. Bottom line, normal misunderstandings start and end with comparing notes/info/exchanging pleasantries/apology. When you see you are dealing with a crazy person- OR a setup situation, you disengage and give the crazy person what they want. I NEVER would have engaged with someone (especially a group) like this when pregnant- but I also wouldn't have been trying to use a shared bike app on those streets while pregnant so her risk tolerance is shocking to me- though she does not deserve outfall from this- at least with the info we have now. Is this group of people identified yet and if not why not? Receipts tell the story, as far as I am concerned. |
That is an interesting perspective. On one hand we have a widely held view by many on here in other posts that police discriminate and are quite aggressive in their action against black men and yet now on this post we have the view that police will not do anything if a mob of black men violently attack a white woman. Quite contradictory. Where are all the posters who have the view that police do discriminate against black men? How could she move on knowing this violent, terrorizing, rage-filled mob could be waiting for her tomorrow or the next day? |
Come on. She is clearly making the practical decision not to say everything she knows. |
So now those villainizing the PA are upset that she didn’t call police.
I see. |
Interstingly I foud a forum where people post their issues with Citibike and one of the complaints I saw (from awhile ago) was that two people could rent the same bike at the same time due to what was described on the forum as a glitch. I don't know that is what happened here and it is possible the young men thought they had retend the bike or where in the process of renting the bike and she beat them to it or that they misunderstood how the rental and paying process works. For example they were already paying before she sat on the bike. Those are all misunderstanding and teens / young men and women don't always realize immediately that they have misunderstood. I disagree that you never put your hands on a bike. If someone is taking a bike that I think is going to cost me $1200, damn straight I am putting my hands on that bike! Not everyone is rich and for many that amount of money is well worth a confrontation. |
No, I am not villainizing her. I believe her version of events. Beign upset she didn't call police only comes with the other posters version of events - which I don't agree with. |
Omg if she had called the police I can’t even imagine how much WORSE things would have been for her. Those people criticizing her have lost their damn minds. |
They haven’t lost their minds. They just hate women and this is a manifestation of that. They are actually as cold-blooded as supremacists of any kind. |
I do want to hear the PPs who are blaming her explain the difference between “She couldn’t have been assaulted because she didn’t call 911” and “She couldn’t have been raped because she didn’t call 911.”
|
No one except you has made either of those statements. I am one of the few posters who believes her and thinks she is competent and able to describe accurately the situation she was involved in. |
