Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Without testing you cannot say if they have Covid. Easy to deny without Testing. You sending your Covid kids to school puts all kids at risk. |
Great. Keep you kids home. Problem solved. |
Close contacts should be tested 4-5 days after exposure or daily using rapid antigen tests, as stated. Are you able to read English? |
Public Health Recommendations: Except in certain circumstances, people who have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 should quarantine. However, the following people with recent exposure may NOT need to quarantine: People who have been fully vaccinated People who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last three months https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/contact-tracing/contact-tracing-plan/appendix.html#contact (emphasis mine) |
Sigh. Saying the "vaccine is to reduce the symptoms not stop the spread" is misleading. The vaccine dramatically reduces spread. |
I am listening to the council meeting live right now. Your chance to catch COVID inMOCO if vaccinated is 0.27 % or 2.1% if not vaccinated. They (dhhs, stoddard, crowel, bridges, o,donell) are adamant that we WILL NOT have another surge. |
| Middle school sent a letter saying someone tested positive for covid today, 9/14, and was last in the school building today on 9/14. This is the second positive test (one late last week and now today). We were not directly notified because per the school my child was in "direct contact". Based on the dates of testing positive and being in the school both today I wonder if the positive test was detected during the Opt In testing that should have started yesterday...... I plan to ask the school but not sure how much they will disclose. Anyone else experience something similar. |
We've gotten notices for two days in a row from our MS, plus one from an outside activity. |

Chances over what period? Daily? Weekly? |
I think our kids go to the same middle school. It could have been caught by the random testing. I hadn’t thought about it. I assumed someone may have gone to school sick and then tested on site. It would be helpful to have more info. Sounds like both cases are in 6th grade. I hope more people opt in for the testing. I think testing is key for the kids who can’t get the vaccine yet. |
Key to what? Knocking them out of school over something where infections have outcomes similar to the flu? http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2020.20495 |
Key to minimizing the spread. Some of us have more vulnerable family members at home and want to keep everyone safe. It’s a delicate balance but I don’t think it’s too much to ask to test and act responsibly given that Covid is still very dangerous for some individuals. |
Kids have been forced to bear the brunt of the pandemic restrictions, despite being the lowest risk group. Now that the vaccines are readily available to adults, including boosters for immunocompromised individuals, we're long overdue for that to change. If adults still believe they are high risk, then they should be responsible for protecting themselves- not demanding policies that close classrooms to mitigate the risk of spread. |
I’m not demanding anything and I want schools open too but when they want to test, I’ll sign up because I believe that’s the responsible thing to do. We are vaccinated at home but have a baby as well who cannot get the vaccine. We all have to make choices and decisions that’s best for our circumstances and families. It would be nice if everyone could respect that we all are facing different challenges. There is no one size fits all solution. |
