I'm not sure what's funnier on this site, the number of people allegedly not affiliated with subject club, yet spend all day here defending it (Loudoun, FCV, VDA, and now McLean) or the obtuseness of posters like the one above who seems to think someone who is successful can't call the McLean spade a spade. It's ok to be successful and to be happy about it, but don't pretend as though you and your DD, at McLean, haven't benefited from your privilege. Accept both it and her lackluster talent for what they are and move on. It's really the healthiest path forward for your narrow mind. |
Everything you just said was completely wrong. My DD does not play at McLean. I don’t enjoy pre-ordained privilege, I earned it, and if you haven’t figured it out, that’s how life works. You reap the harvest of your labor. My point is, once again, there is no point in bitching about other’s success and lot in life. Focus on yours. That’s it. You’ll end up much happier in life. |

My kid plays at McLean on one of the ECNL teams and they suck. Some new kids were bought on to help the team win only to find out those kids weren't even on the top teams at their previous club. Suffice it to say they didn't help win games this Fall 2020 season. What's even worse is that I was told one of the new kids brought on was the kid of the coach's friend which is probably a huge conflict of interest. Anyhow, that parent probably should have done their homework on this team especially if they wanted to win.
My kid hasn't had one winning season since joining McLean travel and it's been a few years. The team had some success towards the end of the 2019-2020 season, but the 2020-2021 season is like starting all over again. New coach, new team, etc...What pisses me off is that we don't get an explanation at the end of the season why we continuously suck? I mean we pay $2K+ a year don't we deserve an explanation from the coach why we suck and let us know what's going to be done to make the team better. I watch the practices sometimes and it seems like they just play these small games which do nothing for the team. Seems like it's just a way to keep the kids busy. I hardly see any teaching happening. I know kids on the team are being played in positions they don't normally play and I don't understand the reasoning behind that. Sometimes I think it's being done because the coach wants the player to get frustrated and leave to another club so the coach can fill that position with a player the coach would like to bring in. I'm looking forward to my kid going to high school cause then I can stop paying to lose and my kid can play for free in high school. |
| Assuming this is the parent of McLean boys team player |
| Sorry but if your kid is not having a good experience and you remain at the club, that is your issue. McLean is not the only game in town. |
| Your DD about to join HS, so they are U15 or U14, and yes, McLean isn't very good. A shill will come in and tell you that "McLean always is at the bottom when younger then as they grow, move up in the standings". Sorry they are struggling, but as a PP said, there are other clubs if your kid wants to win. Maybe hang another year and "magically" McLean gets better for some reason. If they are U15, they won't be topping VDA any time soon or Loudoun if they are U14. It is a lot of money to struggle, I feel your pain. |
This could be boys or girls. They both suck at U15. |
True, I've had my kid workout with an MLSNext team north of Mclean and they liked what they saw. Will be back in the Spring to workout more with the team see if it's a fit and finalize the move. |
Are you talking about boys or girls? On the girls side, McLean is significantly better than either VDA or Loudoun, particularly in the older age groups. Even in U14 age group, in which you stated McLean is not very good, they are third in ECNL standings. That's pretty good. On the boys side, it varies by the age group. For U17, McLean is in the first place and U15 McLean is doing better than either VDA and Loudoun. For U16 and U18/19 boys, McLean is indeed not doing well, but very few local clubs are strong in every age group. |
I didn't say older groups, but way to inject that to make yourself feel better because they are getting waxed at U14 and U15. If you're 3rd, that's okay, but VA hasn't played Carolinas, so within NOVA, they are mid-tier at best. The game vs VDA wasn't even close... I'm talking full blown destruction. They have light years to go to make it even a competitive practice. |
The above is correct--user is trying to protect their U14/15 DDs reputation. |
| Not McLean poster here...but get over yourself VDA Parents |
| Do you deny that VDA is a powerhouse? Tell me you know that VDA has multiple ECNL MA conference titles and a half dozen top four finishes in ECNL nationals. Didn't you see the half dozen or more former VDA players that starred on ACC and SEC teams during the Fall NCAA season. Oh wait! I think I got the clubs mixed up. It is Mclean not VDA that I described above. Seriously folks, VDA might have one good team but it is no McLean, Richmond or FCV but nice try. |
2014 says hi Please come back. We miss you! You clearly don't belong here. |
| Any of the MLSNext teams will wipe the floor with VDA. VDA made the wrong choice going to ECNL... |
