| How is it that a club that used to be a clear first choice for players has sunk? I know they still have a lot of good teams, and it is possible that many who come here just have an axe to grind with them, but what happened if not? |
More choices.....or dilution, whichever you prefer. At least on the girls side. FCV and McLean were the only gigs in town. Now you have McLean, FCV, Metro, Loudoun, VDA, BRYC, and Arlington all with "elite" program options. |
Take loudoun and bryc out of that sentence. They’re great collecting and keeping money. Some without even rendering services. However, for the services they currently render it doesn’t even matter. Vda and arlington know what they’re doing. Fcv delivers tangible results. McLean too so I’m not sure the point of this post? Diverting attention? |
My son doesn’t like the kids in that part of NOVA and the parents don’t have the best reputation, though Arlington gives them a run for their money in my book. I would be delighted if he changed his mind as he gets older. It is a lot closer to where we live vs the club that he goes to now. I am sure McLean has done nothing wrong. Perception is not reality no matter how much people are slaves to perception. And they are often fluid, as the theme of the thread suggests. |
What is wrong with the parents? |
Yeah. Second that on Arlington - I've heard that they actually target the kids of obnoxious parents for recruitment - instead of just focusing on soccer ability. |
|
McLean has had a lot of turn over of coaching staff. In many cases unclear why coaches that left/were asked to leave.
It seems that leadership of club views coaches and players as expendible? |
| This whole thread discussion makes little sense. People talking about nothing |
Seems? With rosters so large, thats a fact. |
|
the choices went from 2 "elite" options to 7.
Mclean and FCV did not magically develop the best players in the area back then... the best players just gravitated to those two clubs. Now the best players gravitate to 7 clubs. But the number of "best players" are unchanged. So before, you really had to be "elite" to be one of those two teams. With 7 options, only 28% of players (2/7) are "elite". That's 1 out of 3 players instead of 3 out of 3 players. |
| What makes you think McLean has lost a step? They won a national championship in ECNL not long ago and their eldest teams continue to be very good. Dilution has affected all clubs in the area but they still draw their fair share or more. |
| Look at where their former coaches have gone. You can go back a long way and find many of their coaches still active and succesful elsewhere. Part of it is a market that attracts talent away and part of it is the emergence of new clubs. Truth is, you can get great coaches there. Truth is also that they have a terrible program for younger kids. |
|
Not involved with McLean. For all the knocks people have on Mclean performance cant be one.
Won conferences and national championships. They recruit and do it very well. They carry large rosters and players truly have to earn their spots. NM brings in players from his total futbol clubs. Mclean is only going to be in trouble if NM decides to move on |
| Is this thread trying to say McLean girls or boys has dropped in quality? McLean girls continue to do very well, especially at the oldest ages. Can’t argue with their college placement and results |
| the "total futbol" pipeline no longer feeds only into mclean. those girls have many more choices now. |
