+1 At least Gohmert will be gone after placing fourth in a four-person race for Texas AG. |
The western NC district was a classic swing district going back and forth through the 1980s. Then Republican Charles Taylor held it for more than a decade while he invested in Russian banks and helped Russians launder their money in NC banks. Taylor was finally defeated by Blue Dog ex-QB Heath Shuler, who became so popular he even survived the 2010 Tea Party wave, but then the Republicans gerrymandered the district to take most of blue Asheville out of it. That enabled Mark Meadows to win it. When Meadows resigned to be Trump COS, he and his wife favored Lynda Bennett, but she lost to Cawthorn. That might be when Debra rented the trailer hideout, so she could help raise money for Bennett without everyone in the GOP knowing about it. It’s a dysfunctional district now. |
If Cawthorne's parents care about him, they will get him help. I think he's suicidal and he wants to hit something. His wife left him after seven months of marriage. I bet there's a tale to tell about that. |
I don’t think he’s suicidal. He’s just a vile, treasonous d-bag. |
He can be both. I see some symbolism in his reckless driving. He nearly died in high school in the wreck that caused him to lose lower body functions. In his civil trial there was testimony that they were trying to switch drivers while speeding. If he’s trying to kill himself now, he’s failing at that too. |
I would say is part of the vile + stupid subsection of the GOP's Putin wing. even most pro-Russia right wingers have been at least silent in the last few days, or even came out with some criticism of Putin. in addition to be be profoundly vile, you must be a special kind of stupid to call a thug a guy who was democratically elected and who is resisting a violent and desctuctive invasion of an army that bombs maternity hospitals by continuing to lead a country and ask the international community for help for his country and citizens, without fleeing the country a la Afghanistan president, knowing very well that first thing Russians do if they get to Kyiv is to kill him (probably in some bad manner as a personal gift from Putin) and his family. |
“If the worst thing Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) did this month was call Ukraine’s President “a thug,” or get caught speeding multiple times with a revoked license, or accuse Speaker Nancy Pelosi of being an alcoholic, the 26-year-old MAGA-influencer would probably be just fine in his re-election bid.
But Cawthorn did something far worse, at least for his own political prospects, and it may cost him his seat: He left his constituents—and then was forced to return to them, hat in hand, after the courts predictably struck down the new map on Feb. 23. The about-face opened up a more damaging line of attack than anything Cawthorn has said or done. It showed, at least briefly, that he was less interested in representing the voters who first elected him than he was in just being in Congress.” https://www.thedailybeast.com/madison-cawthorn-committed-the-one-unforgivable-sin-of-politics?ref=scroll |
Yet people are still going to vote for him. (https://www.yahoo.com/news/house-republicans-tire-madison-cawthorns-114348476.html) Last part of the article is below Chelsea Walsh, a life insurance agent who volunteered for Cawthorn in 2020 but said she is open to other candidates now, predicted a runoff between Cawthorn and Edwards. “If I had to pick, I would say Madison is still the front-runner,’’ she said. “But he has his work cut out for him.” |
The cult like behavior of Republican voters is unreal. Elected Republicans could show up, punch a Republican voter in the face and the voter would still support the person who cold cocked them. |
speaking on punching - isn't the guy from MT who cold cocked a reporter running for Gov again?
|
Cult is the right way to describe it. I live in NC and I just don't get it. |
He’s already governor - he won in 2020. |
