Okay, I was given the impression by Lester what's his name on the news tonight that the charges were made against the grandfather because of the tape. |
This lawyer seems like an idiot |
They were hoping for a quick buck and were banking on RC settling with them to avoid bad publicity. I doubt they thought that so many in the public would be against them, nor did they think Grandpa would be charged. I’d be surprised if RC didn’t initially offer them money. Probably wasn’t what they hoped for. |

As a grandfather of children that age there is no punishment worse than the hell I’d be living with every day for the rest of my life. If you charged me with negligent homicide I might seriously take my own life leaving a letter to the DA saying did this make you feel better?
It was a horrible accident. I can’t imagine the pain for all involved. |
The difference between you and this guy is that he doesn't feel like he made a mistake. He continues to insist it's not his fault, it's Royal Caribbean's fault. |
Agreed. This whole situation was handled so wrong. Sleazebag lawyer swooped in and got the family to place blame on RC. They were going to the news before they probably even had time to fully process the death. Whether they are just idiots or whether they were in such denial that they believed whatever tale this lawyer was telling them remains to be seen. Probably a mix of both. Likely, the lawyer was privy to some firsthand info that made him realize that maybe Grandpa did know window was open and could potentially ruin the case. But since he's an ambulance chasing creep, he helped the grandfather form a new narrative. Then the family dug in with their ridiculous beliefs. But then lawyer realized that a tape existed, and this tape likely backed up the initial info he was privy too. So now there is a scramble to see the tape because they have to form a new narrative. And whatever eye witness accounts and video that was found, showed that grandpa was negligent in some way or another. But family can't admit that they were wrong so they are just digging their heels in more. I would love to know what people in real life think of them. I think I'd have a hard time staying friends with/respecting people who acted like this. Everyone involved are money hungry famewhores, but I do think the lawyer played a big part of it. |
Criminal negligence easily if he was holding for a while and lost his grip. Or the video might show he picked her up, placed her outside and quickly let go...without her squirming. That’s not negligence; that’s homicide. What are the exact charges? |
Would you have thought it was a "horrible accident" if Michael Jackson's son, Prince, fell to his death when Micheal held him out to the crowd on a balcony? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ElddgJCgyg What if he had held him over the railing or put the child's feet or butt on the railing for 60 sec. and then the kid wiggled out of his grasp? Does that just make it a horrible accident that has no recourse? At least Michael only dangled his kid for a second or two. I bet grandpa had the toddler up there for longer than 2 seconds.... that's time that he could have thought to himself "hmmm... this is really high. maybe wiggly-little-girl needs to move back and I should set her down. hmmm" I don't know what the video shows. It probably does support a charge of being so negligent that it resulted in the death of another. But, he will probably plead guilty to child neglect and there will be no trial. |

The parent who takes Ambien at 5:00 a.m. then tries to drive their kid to school -- crashing through a stop light and killing someone (perhaps the child or another person) didn't INTEND to kill anyone.... but took actions that were known to be so risky that death resulted ---- that's negligent homicide.
That's why the family and the lawyer from the get-go have been trying to push the message that "no one could tell that the window was open!" Who knew? Who would expect that? They have been trying to undermine the idea that there was a known risk (i.e. open window, high up) from day 1. |
This is where I am with this - the ambulance chaser thought they would get a settlement, found out RC has a tape, the narrative was changed, still no settlement - so RC is holding out for the family to back down? |
So if someone threatens this, it's an out from being held accountable as laid out in current law? Good to know. |
And you'd be a terrible person. You alone would be responsible for two deaths and then you'd try to blame someone else? Hopefully your grandchildren have more morals than you. |
I think they are going along with what the authorities have requested. In their case, it may work out in their favor of actually avoiding a trial. But the initial settlement they probably offered would not have hurt their bottom line. Once it became clear the police were really pursuing something, they probably stopped negotiations until the criminal case was settled. |
IIRC, RC offered to let them see the tape when this first happened. Family declined. Also lots of blame heaped on the ambulance chaser they hired but the mom is an attorney and the dad is a LEO. Hard to imagine they're being led around by the nose by an unscrupulous attorney. |
Wow, I wasn't aware that the mom was an attorney although I did know that the dad was a cop. I guess professionally they knew that Grandpa could be in big trouble and were trying to get the cruise ship to accept blame for the incident. It's probably been more a matter of mitigating any further damage to their family (court costs for Grandpa along with him possibly going to jail). Plus, they probably *needed* to believe that the cruise ship was responsible for this nightmare. Believing that Grandpa was responsible was too much for all of them... |
