Just because someone has a differing opinion doesn't mean that we aren't real. As a conservative AA, I encounter this type of marginalization all the time. Intolerance of differing opinions is a sickness.

+1 Its fine to disagree but there is a small handful of posters who think that anything which doesn't fit their narrative is a troll and must be lying. Try living in SS and posting anything negative about your experience. You will be accused of being from VA, a W school or whatever.

Posting something negative about your personal experience of life in SS is NOT the same as claiming systemic racism no longer exists and anyone who claims it does has a chip on their soldier.

I don't believe the PP said systematic racism no longer exists, they simply said they no longer allow it to rule their lives. For instance, when someone doesn't hold the door open for you, it could be perceived in different ways:

1. The person must not have realize you were there.
2. The person is just an inconsiderate a-hole
3. The person must be a racist.

A person can choose to assume any of the 3 but, 99% of the time, you don't know for sure. The AA who chooses to assume #1 is going to be called a Racism Denier by those on this board.

Neither you nor PP have an idea what systemic racism means.

Joe hates black people and won’t hold the door for me has what a 10 sec miniscule impact and shouldn’t take up anyone’s mental real estate.

Joe calling me a n*gger as he walks by. I’m inclined to not let that ruin my day.

Those are NOT systemic racism.

Joe and others work to block AA young people from accessing educational or career opportunities they are qualified for. This has an impact whether or not you ever see or hear Joe express racism.

Systemic racism is not personal bigotry or even acts of individual or mob violence. It is how bias and injustice are embedded in processes and institutions in our society.

If no one ever utters the n word again, systemic racism will still exist.

Hi, Clarence!

Way to prove his/her point....

Is that not his position? Isn’t he the hero of black conservatives? Y’all should feel honored to be in the same category as him.

A team claiming systemic reffing bias for their losing streak is short sighted. Even if there is, lots of teams don’t put the game in the refs hands and their performance is really all the can control. It is easy to blame the refs but hard to improve one’s play.

I’m happy. A black person can be happy despite knowing systemic racism exists. Just like a woman can be happy knowing systemic sexism exists. You don’t have to approach an ignorance is bliss attitude to injustice unless you truly feel helpless. Which maybe you do?

Despite what you seem to think, I and the majority of AAs are not sitting at home angry. We’re living our authentic lives and not taking comfort in a delusion that if we just ignore systemic racism, it can’t hurt us.

I would add that systemic racism often results even if there is no "Joe" actively working to keep AA young people down. Systemic racism is where we are, today, based on decades and centuries of actions. For instance, red-lining decades ago result in fewer opportunities for AAs today.

AA folks fear each other and the Spanish the most. I am white grew up in a neighborhood that became extremely dangerous. If AA you pick a side and wear the colors. The other side will shoot you. The Spanish gang loved knives and either black gang would cut you

I got mugged, robbed or jumped at most but as a white personal I am someone you rob not kill.

Later on when I grew up I went back a few times. Once in a suit as a white 29 year old man in a trench coat. They assume I am undercover, decoy or detective in other words I got a gun, back up gun, cuffs two way radio and as a cop pretty broke and no cash. Stay away.

No AA person ever moved to other side of street because of me and elderly came to my side as they would think I am a cop.

Yes. The person claiming he and his family opted out don’t think about things like mortgage rates or other subtle ways that he might be experiencing systemic racism and have no way to opt out. I’m sure he’ll come back and claim he got the very best mortgage possible, LOL.

You keep bringing up Mortgages as systemic racism. We are getting to the heart of the issue. You have a choice as to what you blame your high mortgage rate on. Mortgage rates are based on your ability to pay back the loan - period. The ability to pay back a loan is determined by using a person's credit score. It's much easier to claim victimhood of systemic racism than it is to take responsibility of one's low credit score. If you want to have a conversation about why AA credit scores are so much lower than other groups, that's legitimate. But, you didn't get a higher mortgage rate because you were black - computers determine the rate.

That is completely not true. Studies have shown that AA are routinely charged higher mortgage rates based solely on the fact they are AA (independent of their credit scores).

If you don’t like the rate don’t take the mortgage. The stupid and their money are always soon parted. Don’t be stupid
