What's with the constant put down here of hardworking kids as "Striver" kids"?

Kids who don’t strive to learn well in school, when they grow up to be adults will strive for the rest of their lives to make both ends meet. You either strive as a kid or you strive as an adult until your death. There is no free lunch!

If you replace “strive” with “work,” your meaning would be clearer, and you’d get no argument. But “strive” is not a synonym for “work.”

strive = hard work

strive, verb
make great efforts to achieve or obtain something.
