Why is Blake Lively so overrated?

I’m totally against cancel culture, but…

Nobody is entitled to be universally liked or adored, and nobody is entitled to be a successful working actor or popular celebrity. If people think you are a jerk, then why would they like you?

There’s a reason celebs have PR people.

+1 especially when Blake and Ryan actually make the vast majority of their money hawking products and services for businesses they own, not acting. They aren't making art and asking for privacy the way, say, Kiersten Dunst and Jesse Plemmons do. They are begging people to buy Mint Mobile or their alcohol brands and using their fame to push these products (which are reportedly pretty bad). They do (bad) movies occasionally to keep their profile high and then complain about having to do press or get mad when people ask about their kids (who they post about on social media all the time).

I cannot stand them. I think they are both pretty talentless and I think Blake is going to handle it very poorly when she ages enough to no longer be beautiful and her fan base completely abandoned her because their interest was always based on just wanting to follow the popular, pretty girl. I think they've already peaked and 10 years from now it's gonna be sad.

Totally agree that they are screaming for popularity and cashing in on it, not just "making art."

I don't think there's anything sad about it as RR has made $$$$ and they will be fine.

But I've always found her persona very off-putting. Like her outfit at the Superbowl with Taylor - fun yes but also very "look at me."

It’s kind of weird.

Because she and her husband have ganged up on a less-powerful Hollywood person (Justin Baldoni) in the deluded belief that they are going to get Blake an Oscar nod by turning a movie about domestic violence into a life-affirming chick flick girls night event where women should “wear your florals squeee!!!”

Truly despicable behavior.

Go outside and calm down? You’ve Interneted too much today.

This is true, yet I feel my involvement in the Blake-Baldoni beef is actually very principled.

She's an ungracious, tone-deaf idiot, especially because there is nothing sexist about the importance of costume design on a period movie. It was an opportunity to elevate the question by highlighting the costume designer who even ended up being nominated for an award for her work on this movie, and she blew it by making a dumb sexist joke instead.

Has anyone ever seen her elevate anyone else (besides another mega-celebrity like TS which just helps her own brand)? Like in an interview or her IG etc?

She's probably cancelled with Millennials and GenX too, since most moms in those generations have a permanent "little bump" after having kids.

Maybe she'll apologize again and people will forget about this too just like her plantation wedding and joke about Kate Middletons photoshop.

There are only so many chances people get to show you who they are. She has told everyone who she is, and as she's getting older and more arrogant, people can only take so much BS from her.

I’ve always found Blake and Ryan unappealing, both separately and together.

Ryan has always looked like he’s wearing a mask of his own face, and he seems goofy. I couldn’t understand what ScarJo liked about him. I also can’t wrap my head around a man liking both Alanis Morisette and ScarJo.

I know Blake only from Gossip Girl and she’s a bad actress and always sounded like she needed a spittoon. Ugliest pretty girl I’ve ever seen, and I just figured it was because she was ugly on the inside.

What do we think of the interplay between Blake and Brandon Sklenar in interviews, etc?

I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve been paying attention because I liked the 1923 series, which Brandon was great in.

Anyway, I think he seems almost smitten with Blake when they do interviews together. He stares at her while she talks and heaps on over the top praise when he’s asked questions about her. I think also smiles more when he looks at her vs his other co-stars. Maybe he’s just really trying to keep her happy since he’s fairly new to Hollywood? He unfollowed Justin Baldoni.

Considering what the PPs have pointed out about her links to Harvey Weinstein, I think it’s funny that she seems to be trying to low-key “me too” Justin Baldoni with the whole “his kiss lingered too long.”

Usually people do congratulate pregnant women, in the workplace as well if the pregnancy is known, which I am sure was the case here. What's not normal is responding to congratulations so rudely instead of "thanks" and moving on if you don't wish to discuss.

Yup her reaction was uncalled for. The journalist wasn't trying to be rude or hurt her feelings. Take the experience and know next time to have your agent ask not to being up the pregnancy anymore. The fact she still can't apologize shows she just a mean girl

The crazy part to me is that if you watch the video, the comment is really not even part of the interview. It's like this little aside before the interview starts like they are greeting each other and the interviewer says casually "of and congrats on your little bump there." And then BL makes a HUGE deal of it and tanks the entire interview. It was just nothing.

And I say that as someone who was mega-hormonal while pregnant, struggling with HG, and pretty much hated being pregnant. I found like 90% of all things people said to me while pregnant. I'd come home and tell my husband all the stupid, ignorant, and insensitive things people said to me. But not even I would have registered someone at work saying "congrats on your little bump." I might have thought to myself "talk about your own little bumps, ahole" because, again, hormones and constant vomiting and nausea and swollen ankles and just loathing all humans. But it wouldn't have said anything or turned it into a giant thing because I'm not that self-centered and also: who has the time or energy?

It just speaks to a lot of arrogance and self-centeredness that BL thinks she's entitled to vengeance because of some off hand little comment that didn't even mean anything and was just small talk among strangers.

Yes - this! I have felt the same way about RR yet could not put my finger on it exactly until reading this above.
He just does not seem like a genuine person to me.

He also has a very annoying manner of speaking. It's he's constantly holding back a laugh at his own joke. In my mind his voice makes him unsuitable for almost any serious part. His fake Twitter
fight and inside jokes with Hugh Jackman are tiresome. He seems to think we are waiting for his next Twitter "prank."

Blake is at the age when the movie parts for attractive actresses with minimal abilities start running out. It's not fair but it happens to almost all actresses over 40. She's not going to be a character actress because her zone is basically sorority girl or former sorority girl. Jennifer Anniston with less charm.

I think the backlash will fade away, and won’t hurt her in the long-run but I personally will avoid her movies from now on.

I only say this because people say she’s pretty. I’m not sure I’d recognize her. She has a bland look.

Wow, Blake and Parker were so rude. Watching this made me physically uncomfortable.

I’d give the interviewer a break as non-native speakers often use turns of phrase that are rude but they don’t necessarily understand that they way a native speaker would. It would have been nicer to give a congrats that did not involve any relation to her body or body shape.

That said, a bump comment is not a reason to be so mean.

Blake seems dumb and entitled in the video. Others would have handled this with much more intelligence and grace. Blake just seemed like a bully at the schoolyard.

As soon as I saw the hair care line launch off the back of the movie I was like - gross. The fact that it’s a movie about domestic abuse just makes it much worse
