Then why was the email so late going out to parents who were unable to attend last weeks meet and greet? It also seems odd to have separate meet and greets for parents and students, all of which are over the summer break. Such is the ongoing communication problems of Winston Churchill HS.

Can't speak to the late notice, but she started July 1, so the meet and greets have to be over the summer! I feel bad for her - school hasn't even started, she's been on the job for exact 3 weeks, has had 2 open houses, and you are already unhappy. How about looking at the positive?

I guess I was hoping for a principal to have better communication practices than the last.

School for students doesn't start till September. Why not have a lunch meet and greet with students then? Or an assembly to welcome the entire student body with a reminder to end the practice of hazing students on "Freshman Friday" (first Friday of the school year).

Are there to be additional sessions with parents and students at a time families don't have vacation plans? Or is this a MCPS maneuver to say she had the obligatory meet and greets?

Who knows. After so many years with crappy principals at Hoover then Churchill, perhaps I am a bit jaded. I will be a happier person when my youngest graduates and no more MCPS BS.

Since you asked, the next student meet and greet is August 6th from 2-4 pm. August 30th is the new student orientation, a parent coffee fro 9 am - 10:30 am and a new student parent meeting from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

September 6 is back to school night. October 8th is a parent coffee and open house form 8:30 am - 1:330 pm.

I am as frustrated as anyone but give the new principal a chance. She seems pretty enthusiastic and willing to listen to the Community.

Thank you DCUM poster for providing the list above! God knows it should be coming from our school but I guess at least now we know when the next dates are. Thankful for small miracles and kiss ass parents.

Lots of kiss ass parents who want other people to stand up and raise the issue that they are too afraid to speak about publicly. Meanwhile, they have no problems complaining behind someone's back or doing whatever it takes for their own child to get ahead and special treatment.

I"m not sure why you felt it necessary to insult me for providing the information. I was able to take time out from my summer to attend a meeting as did other parents. If you couldn't not a big deal but not sure why those of us that did are kiss asses. I hope you can find some kindness in your day.

And Russia among other countries!

True!

What? Russians are typically categorized as white, not Asian.

Yeah - you are a big part of the problem. Give her a minute to get her arms around things.

New PP - Public communication should be skills a principal has day one. A meet and greet could have been arranged prior to her start but after the BOE announcement as a way to send well wishes to Dr. Benz and welcome the new principal. That would have been a better transitory step versus having meet and greets in the middle of summer break. So be it. Communication skills obviously are not an important skill developed during the MCPS training process because many of her cohorts in M C PS have the same problem.

Has anyone suggested that the new principal search for ‘churchill’ on DCUM? Would give her a pretty good orientation to the school and community.

Well it would certainly let her know what the nutbags are thinking.
