Harvey Weinstein

There is nothing wrong with this and if you disagree you are a feminist puritan who thinks having sex with a prostitute is rape. You are also denying the adult women the chance to make their own pro/con decisions.

Those women spread their legs to get roles in new movies. No one made them do it -- they did it for themselves as they wanted to become filthy rich & famous. Most of them were perfectly happy with the transaction and are merely capitalizing on it now as a convenient & shameless double dip, ex. Paltrow promoting Goop.

Wow, you are gross. The very fact he had that power over them is the problem, which you obviously don't see.

Not PP, but that is blatantly untrue! He didn't have power over them until they'd accepted a role. Half of them never got that far so there was no power at play.

The problem is he has the power to keep them from getting a role solely based on whether or not they sleep with him. THAT is the abuse of power, you twit.

MAtt Damon is a misongynist turd, what are you talking about?

No Meryl Streep is a misogynistic thug. Weinstein made her and she knew.

Nope. Meryl goes all the way back to award winning "Deer Hunter". She predates Harvey. I don't know if she knew or not. And neither do you.

For the men piling on, if you didn't speak up against him when it could have hurt your career, it is beyond shameless for you to speak up now when it will help you look better.

Not really. Nobody really cared if a woman was being sexually harassed or even assaulted 10 years ago.
Time are a changing. I was not given a promotion because I just had a baby 17 years ago and that was legal. It was in writing. While you are the most qualified we believe that you won't give 100% with your new responsibilities with a new born. I contacted a lawyer and he said that you can't be discriminated agains based on your status as a parent. Now you can.

Ten years ago a woman would have been told to fight harder or do you have physical evidence?

Without the many women and the audio this would still be a non-story.

Oh, you think you are good enough to act but your not really that good, that is why you did not get the part. How do you prove you were good enough but didn't get the job because you refused to have sex with somebody.

It is impossible to prove. He said, she said.

How old are you? Sexual harassment has been a big issue since Anita Hill in 92.

Yet her abuser is a Supreme Court justice.

Up initial now it was just PC bullshit or an unfortunate event.

Finally people are getting fired.

I feel this way about Gwenyth. Just seems egregious and opportunistic of her now. Ashley Judd is the real mvp!

Those two are powerful enough to have spoken up earlier.

+1,000,000 - I hate them for keeping quiet for all of these years.

You don't get it. Nobody cared. Okay he tried to have sex with you, big deal. Nobody cared 10 years ago if somebody tried to coerce you into sex. If you walked away unscathed there is no charge except being a dirty old man.

There is not charge for almost being raped.

I haven't read Angelina's account, but Gwenyth was not almost raped, she was propositioned by some old, slimy, sleezeball.

See even u don't get it.

She was sexually harassed at work. He isn't just a dirty old man hitting on her at an airport.

But your line of thinking is why we're are where we are today.

And the jacking off in front of the reporter .., no charge, she wasn't raped.

What did she have before this? A dirty old manhunt on me. BFD.

The women who are shocked and the others who don't understand why some of the women are just coming forward are either young, or have known anyone who has been sexually harassed followed by the consequences of coming forward. It's not 1999. A J Pitt said she did come forward and tried to warn other women, well we know that didn't work did it. Look at all the women who ignored her warnings and worked or attempted to work with Weinstein anyway.

I would have to agree

One did and the other told her boyfriend.

There were plenty of women too. They should be doubly ashamed.

Anjelilina Jolie said he harassed her and she tried warning other women, but they ignored her.

He, like most are fully pathological. Imagine all the 'non-celebrities' he went after?

Meryl Streep has been around long before HW showed up. I also think he, like many predators, was smart enough to be on his best behavior around her. It's clear he was very careful in choosing his targets as young actresses that were early in their careers. He used the huge imbalance of power to his advantage.

I think Clooney's statement was interesting.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/george-clooney-speaks-out-on-harvey-weinstein-its-disturbing-on-a-whole-lot-of-levels

"I’ve heard rumors, and the rumors in general started back in the ’90s, and they were that certain actresses had slept with Harvey to get a role. It seemed like a way to smear the actresses and demean them by saying that they didn’t get the jobs based on their talent, so I took those rumors with a grain of salt."

It does suggest another possible angle to the silence around this. That in some ways a person in Hollywood hearing the rumors might have felt like discussing it more openly was attacking the woman, rather than Weinstein. It sadly shows how much work there is to done on this. The default is always, ALWAYS to blame/doubt/shame the woman.

No it’s only men.

One woman, quoted today in the NYTimes, said she wanted to report him but knew that word would get out if she did and other men would see to it that she was blacklisted. This is precisely what keeps women silent.

But there are plenty of women over the years that have fawned over him and praised him. Many times on shows where they are promoting movies, actresses would gush over "The Weinstein Brothers"

And there are many actresses who gush over and praised people like Woody allen and Roman Polanski, knowing that they were full on predators.

That bothers me just as much if not more than a bunch of sleazy guys protecting their own.

I do not fault any of the women who were victims but I sure do fault any of the women, particulary powerful actresses, who looked the other way while heaping praise and accolades on men they know to be predators.

If we women do not use our voices to speak up, then who will?

Well, what about his wife? Surely Georgina knew the rumors before (and subsequently after) she married him. How can she defend or even stand by his predatory behavior towards young, vulnerable women and girls? She and other women like that, who stand by and do nothing, make my skin crawl with disgust. I honestly don't know who is worse...the predator or the enabler/facilitator.

+10000 Absolutely zero respect or sympathy for wives like this. She was complicit in his behavior and sat idly by while he harassed and assaulted women presumably so as not to disrupt her comfortable lifestyle or gravy train.

Unless you work with your spouse, do you know everything that is going on in his/her office? Would your spouse tell you if they are sexually harassing and abusing the staff?

You're kidding me, right? I'm sure he treats her with the utmost respect and has never hit on another woman in her presence. She also probably had no idea about the numerous allegations spanning 3 decades or the hundred of thousands of dollars flying out of their bank account for settlements. It was willful ignorance.

I know you're attempting to be sarcastic, but save it. Would you know if your husband was sexually harassing his subordinates? Does he come home and say, "honey, I chased the new intern around the office and groped her T & A.

The settlements don't come out of the personal accounts. They come out of the company account, and most large companies have insurance policies that cover such claims. So I doubt Georgina or whatever her name, missed any funds connected to such claims flying out of their joint bank accounts

You can absolutely report someone for posting misogynistic, victim blaming trash. And in the 21st century, most moderators remove it.

Isn't that how this thread started with the suggestion that Jennifer Lawrence slept with him to get all her big breaks.
