One of mine is the one the brother of Kitty Genovese did on his sister.

This is interesting since allegations of apathy by witnesses to crimes has heightened in past 20 years with ubiquitous of smart phones - allegations now not just that people stand around doing nothing but that they record and stream the crimes/ conflicts without trying to help innocent parties ..

Steve James has said he was inspired to make Stevie because of how many people asked him for follow-ups about the boys from Hoop Dreams. He was Big Brother to a throwaway kid named Stevie when he was in college, so he went back to find him and tell his story, because nobody would ever ask about him. Pretty interesting.

A lot of good Frontlines come to mind, but I found "The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan" to be particularly fascinating (about bacha bazi).

+1. Stevie is an amazingly (and sad) well made profile. That is a great movie.

I remember when that one came out and I read the Wikipedia and ultimately decided I would find it too disturbing.

So good! You should watch it.

The Fog of War is my fave. Followed closely by the Enron documentary. Long ago I saw one on people in sales that was fantastic but can’t find it or the title online.

In case it hasn't been mentioned in this thread - Putin's Way on Frontline. An excellent explainer of how Putin came to power.

An oldie but goodie, The Farmer’s Wife on PBS.

I heart documentaries!

They had the same people come in every week, so it was a real community and they kept a black leather handbag behind the counter in case any of the customers were going to a funeral and needed to borrow it.

obviously i'm not doing it justice in my description, you just have to know it was moving and just amazing.

This sounds great. Anyone know the title?
