What is the best documentary you have ever seen?

I am a documentary junkie. Any suggestions?

My latest favorite was The Imposter. So many questions! I want an update.

Also many people say "DO NOT WATCH DEAR ZACHARY IT WILL MESS YOU UP FOR LIFE" however I find it to be a brilliant documentary and think it is worth viewing.

I think Just Melvin, Just Evil has the ability to mess with you, especially if you can make it through to the end.

I don't know about favorite because they're usually about heavy topics and it's hard to "love" them. Dear Zachary was very compelling. I thought The Cheshire Murders was fascinating, and horrifying.

Mea Maxima Culpa. It documents the abuse of boys in a deaf school by priests and the coverups. It's amazingly powerful.

Have to think about "the best" sometime but the Enron one ("Smartest guys in the room" or something?) was very powerful.

Drop Dead Gorgeous

I loved Young@Heart, Born into rothel and To be and to have

Isn't that a fake documentary though?

There are a ton of greats suggested in earlier threads - here's one from last year - http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/411152.page - but there have been several others as well - just put Documentaries in the search box.

Some good ones I've seen lately - Requiem for the Dead: American Spring 2014; Southern Rites; Ken Burns series on the Roosevelts

Agrees with all these - dear Zachary was brilliant and heartbreaking, and the Cheshire murders was just as horrifying.

I watch a ton of documentaries. Off the top of my head:
Living Dolls (pageant kids)
The Last Just Man (Rwandan genocide)
Stories We Tell (not strictly a documentary but excellent)
Beware of Mr Baker (drummer Ginger Baker)

Agreed!

Way too many questions left. Don't want to spoil it for anyone but seriously, no justice for the one person who deserves it!

I joined Netflix just so I could watch Dear Zachary. I was speechless after watching it.

First Position (about ballet)

Chimpanzee

Paperclip Project (about a school project to learn about the holocaust)

Yea well everything has been discussed on DCUM already, if people didn't start new threads there would be tumble weeds around here.

I vote for Hellhouse, Corpsy, After Porn and Jesus Camp. Haha two right wing, one serial killer and one about old porn stars.
