NP here. I met someone who lives in Maryland but planned to apply as a DC resident. She laid out her plan in detail and relied heavily on the advice of others from Maryland who do it as well.
I don't know where her child ended up or if he/she even "won" the lottery, but I know that it is something that at least some folks in Maryland don't bat an eye about. If you can do it, they think it won't be a problem. Luckily, my child got into a school I'm happy with. If my child had not and I found out her child had I would be furious. I feel bad for DC residents that are displaced by cheaters. I've seen several families move out of the city because they were not able to get into their choice school. This is a BIG problem in DC. It effects some more than others. I support those affected. |
I have in mind an out of state institution that she should be attending. It's called Lorton. |
| Lortom was closed 13 years ago. |
Who claims her as a dependent on tax returns? You cannot (legally) both claim the child as a dependent. That determines who has "primary" custody. Of course, if neither of you claim her as a dependent then your situation is in the grey area. |
Then perhaps the only boundaries that need to be redrawn the ones between DC and Maryland. |
Haha! Well put. |
We trade off years. Last year it did. This year, he will. |
And in VA. |
| But it was built for and operated by the DC Government. |
It's a problem. They're throwing Ward 3 kids out of the Deal feeder pattern because of overcrowding, yet doing practically nothing to root out MD kids who are fraudulently enrolled at Deal and at Wilson HS. |
| How sad is their situation that they would try to get into dcps, one of the worst school systems in the country |
| They are refugees in dire straits if they choose dcps, Obama should declare them status. |
Not true of all of DCPS, duh. |
Well, at least you know when you're cheating DC out of their tuition money. When he claims her as a dependent, she has his address as the official address. When you claim her as a dependent she "lives" in Maryland and you should be paying DCPS tuition. "How much would an out-of-state resident get charged to send their kid to D.C. public schools for a year? Between $6,709 and $11,986. Or they could pay day by day, only $37 to $67." Good point! What are the mayoral candidates' positions on cheaters? |
