Petunia hang in there and try to be patient, especially if it is your first. I am due on Tuesday with #2 and no real evidence of anything happening, but with #1, I went for a doc appt 3 days past my due date and there was nothing happening, and then I went into labor that night. In your head, give yourself at least a 7-10 day window past your due date of when it might happen! |
Thank you. Very good advice. Good luck with #2 ![]() ~Petunia |
Elle here. I'm 6 days away from my official due date. Tick tock! I have no idea if I'm effaced or anything - the midwives haven't done any checks, and I don't really want them to since I'm GBS+.
Trying to be Zen about the whole thing. Baby is low and engaged, and yesterday I think I lost a little bit of my mucous plug, but meh, who knows if that means anything. I know anxiety and tension just postpones labor, so I've been trying to relax, do some positive visualizing and breathing, get plenty of sleep, and get things done that I know I won't even be able to pay attention to once the baby is here. Good luck, Petunia. My SIL was like one day away from being induced when she went into labor, so sometimes all that baby needs is a deadline to get the message that it's time to go! ![]() |
Vee here. Keep the updates coming ladies! Things can change so fast.
Just got back from my 37 week appt. I'm 2cm dilated (was 1 last week), still 50% effaced (no change from last week), and the doctor said that the baby is lower than last week. They've gone ahead and scheduled an induction for 39 weeks because of my previous precipitous labor. I'm thinking I won't make it that far, and I'd prefer not to be induced anyway. Just a waiting game now! If you work, are you still working? Are you planning on a stop-work date or are you just going to work up until you go into labor? I'm still working full time since I work at a desk. I assume I'll work up until I go into labor but little things like walking too much - even from the car to my desk, and standing for more than 5 minutes, are getting to me now. |
Elle here. I'm working from home at this point, and planning to up until labor, mostly because I'd prefer not to have to rush out of the office when things start up.
It's hard though! I work with clients, and I'm dialing back my appointments and such because I could have to drop everything at any minute, and so I'm finding myself with less and less to do, and feeling guilty about that. |
Thanks, Elle. I am really hoping to avoid induction. I hope this little baby does just need a deadline! Wow - 6 days - you are so close! Sounds like you are doing a great job staying Zen. I am looking forward to reading an update from you that your baby has arrived ![]() Vee - sounds like we may be getting an update from you too that your baby has arrived! This waiting game is crazy. I feel like the last few months went by quickly, and now time is going by slooowly. ~Petunia |
Elle here. Man, I dunno if I'm staying Zen. I'm just trying real hard. Honestly, time is still flying by for me, but I worry I'll be past my due date before I know it and then I'm going to start fretting about induction discussions, which I'd just as soon avoid having to worry about...
I just don't want to have to jumpstart things. I feel like induction is equivalent to taking a laxative when you need to poop. I mean, yeah, it works, but it's so much better just to be regular... |
LR here!
Still no progress on my part, cervix is closed - due Weds! Dr scheduled my induction for Aug 20 -- hoping to go naturally before that though! Hope the new moon helps out a bit on Monday! Congrats to 9:35 as well!! How exciting! Vee- Like Elle, I'm working from home until B-Day. Although teleworking is kind of boring and I too have dialed down what I'm working on since I passed on some work to a coworker! But I don't want to be the one giving birth at L'Enfant Plaza!! |
This is Vee -
Petunia, Elle, LR - sounds like we're all dealing with potential inductions and are all a little wary. I too really hope I don't have to go through induction. I've talked to my brother who is in his last year of med school and asked him if there's any truth to the whole "induction can lead to a c-section" talk. He said all the inductions he's witnessed have gone totally normal, and the only thing he could think of is if they have to start an induction before your cervix is really ready, then that might lead to needing a c section for some reason. I guess we just have to put our faith in our doctors! My doctor did an internal exam yesterday at my appointment and neglected to tell me that I might see blood later in the day. So a few hours later I was really surprised to see spotting and immediately called the office. As I suspected, they said this is normal after an internal exam. I just wish they would have given me a heads up! |
I'm 37 weeks, went to my MW appointment today and was told baby is head down but prosterior. Anyone have expereince with this, and any tips to get this little sunny side up the ride way![]() |
try spinningbabies.com - i haven't looked into it but heard it was useful and that a lot of midwives use the tricks. |
Mine told me at the most I should see a little pink. If I saw blood, to go to L&D. |
Darn - I had an exam yesterday and saw a little pink this morning. I was hoping it was a sign a of some dilating/effacing. But, now I realize it may be from the exam.
So, aside from walking and intercourse, I read that pineapple can help soften the cervix and get things moving! I think I will buy some this weekend! Anyone trying any other food or activities to get that cervix dilated? ~Petunia |
The midwives asked me to take 1000mg of Evening Primrose Oil 3 times a day from 36 weeks, which I'm doing. EPO has a component that is a precursor to prostaglandins, which ripen the cervix. I've also heard inserting a capsule of Evening Primrose Oil vaginally (after poking some holes in the capsule) can directly help.
I've read that you'd have to eat a LOT of pineapple to do much. But you could just take some bromelain capsules or some digestive enzyme capsules to get the same effect. |
9:35 here. My ob said the only cervical ripener she believes in is sperm. I took EPO nightly for a couple of weeks and we did have sex a couple of times, but I don't think anything caused me to go into labor. I'm sending lots of thoughts your way, as I was afraid of getting induced too. hope all your babies get here on their own time table. |
