i find it immature that people are calling mcdonald's gross. haha. reminds me of my sister when she turned vegetarian and called all meat gross.
mcdonalds is an acquired taste. some people like it... my husband grew up eating it and likes it. i personally don't eat much from there. i do remember getting a look from another mom while at the park with my toddler son. he was eating his happy meal. we don't eat at mcdonald's all the time, but we will occasionally pick it up before heading to the park. i really didn't appreciate the look!! |
Fine. I won't say that McDonald's is gross. However, I will point out that McDonald's hamburgers do not disintegrate after 12 years, a fact that I find a bit... suspect. http://aht.seriouseats.com/archives/2008/09/12-year-old-mcdonalds-hamburger-still-looking-good.html |
Around 30 minutes of TV a day. Sometimes we skip days and sometimes we watch more or watch a movie instead.
Not big into McDonalds but we may do it once or twice a year if we're on the road. I like places like Chik Fil A better - even that's only a few times a year though. We eat out once or twice a month. Kids are almost 4 and almost 2. |
30-1 hr/day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Always DVD or netflix, no commercials.
McDs/fast food varies. Usually when we travel (every 3-4 months), or when something unexpected happens - like sitting in traffic for 3 hours and the kids need to eat. My children also will only eat nuggets - not hamburgers. Not that the nuggets are any better, its just what they'll eat. |
So if someone doesn't like McDonald's, it is safe to assume that person is uncultured, immature, sanctimonious and judgmental?
What about vegans? Do they offend you, too? |
oh yeah, it's so appetizing. not gross at all. http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/foodbytes/2010/10/mechanically-separated-chicken-picture-nuggets.html |
Its the *tone* that can be read into someone's post. Sometimes they're just sayin' and don't mean insult but insult is *read* into it because of our own individual sensativities. Sometimes insult is intended.
No problem w/ vegans. Or with people who hate McDs. I just don't like being judged. But I'm also being a hypocrite. I sneer at the fat family ordering super sized meals at McDs. Really, why should I sneer? It's my own prejudice coming out. |
me? I read all day at work. For pleasure, I probably spend 45 minutes a day reading newspapers/magazines online or in print, and try to read a book (usually non-fiction history) maybe every other month. For my child, we normally read her three or four books every night. As for tv, I am not a tv junkie. I don't watch the Bachelor or too many shows, but it just seems odd to watch ZERO. So many channels, some better than others, it seems hard to believe that nothing on there interests you. Travel shows, history shows, sporting events, movie channels, whatever. But hey, this has been eye opening to me. |
I agree, if that's the case (dvd's or pbs kids show with no commericals) are not being counted then my 2 hours a day goes down to zero. Must be all the lawyers being all technical with the definition tv. I lumped dvds and such in there. |
Do you know what wheat looks like before its turned into flour? Wow, and zuchini bread looks nothing like a zuchini. Seriously, almost all of our food, except raw or steamed fruits and veggies, is processed to some point and does not look remotely like what it started out as. |
To pp- there is a big difference between industrialized processing of foods (with the addition of preservatives to keep it fresh at market) and shredding zucchini to make zucchini bread at home. Take a look at a basic recipe vs. the label of a processed food. |
Although there is a HUGE difference between watching Sponge Bob on Nickelodeon and Super Why on PBS, its still tv. One *might* impart some beneficial learning, while the other is more likely to impart some bad behavior. But its still tv. Watching isn't black/white good/bad.
TV is a way for many to decompress, including kids. Over use of it (or anything) is detrimental. But restricting it can backfire. My mom restricted how much we could watch and what we could watch. So we went to our friends house to watch it. She got so furious when she caught my brother watching tv she broke the television set. Which just led to us kids fighting more since there was no tv to distract us and her buying a new tv. lol |
I know it doesn't have ground up cartilage, mystery filler and ammonia in it, so I am not grossed out about Zuchini bread ingredients like I am chicken nuggets. I know, I am a sanctimonious, uncultured mother depriving my children of the Almighty Micky Dees. Oh well. |
is this what you read when i said calling mcdonald's gross is immature? i think using the word gross is immature especially when you're referring to something that many people eat and do not consider gross. it's like calling certain ethnic food gross when other people do not find it gross. yes, mcdonald's is unhealthy but i'm not going to tell my friend eating a big mac that what she's eating is gross. and no, you calling it gross does not offend me. haha. |
I'm sure there might be shows that interest me. I only have from 9 pm until 10 or 10:30 pm as truly free time each day - it's just that I don't enjoy spending those precious 60 or 90 minutes zoning out to the tube. I'd rather call a friend, talk to DH, read, have sex, do yoga. I also believe in getting 8 hours of sleep every night. |
