Underwhelming campus experience

And you use the term "ghetto" because?

Any connotation you want derived here?

Woke is broke! Ghetto is back along with every other word you don’t like. Deal with it!

Because it's a less attractive area where freshmen mostly live apart from everyone else.

Then just say that.

NP. I loved East Campus when I was at Duke. Different vibe than West, but not in a bad way. Just different.

Though I was assigned to West my first year and loved the convenience, I absolutely see the benefit of having all the first years living together on East. To me it’s actually a huge plus - helps forge friendships and community (and way more convenient than when first years were split between three campuses like back in my day.)

When I went back to visit a few years ago, I spent time on East. It’s still beautiful in its own way, and super easy to get to West. Not at all a ghetto. 🙄

OMG. So defensive.

This is about personal opinions and Duke just doesn’t do it for me. It’s a jumble and East Campus seemed very drab. Neither DC nor I could imagine spending a year there.

+1

Anyone using Duke and ghetto in the same sentence is an ignoramus.

Anyone who does not know that ghetto is a commonly used figure of speech and was not used literally by the PP is an ignoramus.

"Ghetto" is very offensive and not PC.

Thanks, language police.

Duke still makes the underwhelming list for many of us.

Interesting. We were the complete opposite. Thought UChicago was impressive and were completely underwhelmed by Northwestern. DC applied to neither.

Attends Vanderbilt instead, which DC found to be a much more impressive school than both Chicago and Northwestern.

dp. Interesting. We thought Vanderbilt was horrifically overrated and underwhelming on our visit.

DP. Couldn't agree more. I honestly don't get the hype.

Fell in love with Vandy when I visited for law school. Signed up before I left campus. Zero regrets.

It's a world unesco site. And Poe's room is on display. And Montecello. And the vineyards around C'vile. And the beauty of the countryside. If you can't appreciate any of that then the problem is you so I can tell your kid didn't get in. Take your sour grapes elseshere.

World unesco site doesn’t make something pretty. Why you’re the only one defensive on this thread should really be called to question.

UVA boosters are always so aggressive

We found much of UVA to have an odd aroma. Like something between moldy and an old shoe. So off putting. The tour guide said it’s petty regular.

Odd aroma? Our family has spent considerable time on grounds in various buildings (including dorm buildings). Not our experience at all.

Beat it, wokie. 2020 is looking for you.

+1 Did not enjoy our visit.

Anonymous wrote:W&M, as many other posters have said. Underwhelming doesn't even begin to cover it.

I’m sorry to hear this. W&M was one of our best tours. Lovely campus as well.

Georgetown. Trash everywhere. Graffiti. Lots of vagrants, homeless and random tourists roaming around a "campus" . This "campus" is actually just a corner of a city block, with great free parking if you want to roam M street.

UVA. All the square red brick buildings. Felt like I was touring a prison. Why is everything "under construction" for years and years? It's just a very ugly school in an otherwise beautiful part of the state.

You win this thread by being indifferent to the criticism. Harvard didn’t impress you? Fine. You probably didn’t get in anyway.

The posters who get upset and respond when someone doesn’t like UVA, Duke, or W&M are the losers of the thread because they are revealing their fragile egos.

I guess we’re super easy to please, probably been on 20+ tours and found things we liked at all. Mine had a harder time ruling out schools. I really enjoyed all the different tours, such an exciting stage of life.
