Skaggs used to work at Marshall High School. He did something in Special Ed. |
When he left Yorktown he said it was for a new job... in a sciff. |
He worked at Marshall and coached at Yorktown. Left teaching when he had a baby for a job with better pay. |
| What are the top 5 travel team organizations in Northern Va. - Would Prime Time be on the list? Looking to see what you have to deal with - when playing for higher level orgs- understand PT is not well regarded at the ownership level- based on this thread. |
The one where you like the coach for your child’s age and your child will get playing time. |
I think this is what you get when athletes grow up focusing exclusively on sports, verses academics and attaining a decent education that would benefit them in the real-world/ workplace. Then, when their athletic dream is over, they revert to being a part of the pay-to-play athletic training system in order to scratch out a living and survive. This is not a baseball only problem. But for goodness sakes, make sure your kid's primary focus is on getting a good education and athletics is second. |
Depends how you define it? Top 5 with players getting college commitments (from colleges you have heard of)? Top 5 with happiest families? |
| Top 5- Criteria- let's go with overall enjoyment for the player, organized operations, good communication, ability to assist with college recruitment ( if player wants to advance), higher level talent in the org., and coaches who are knowledgeable and connect with the kids. |
For college recruitment…they need to be able to honestly assess where you are recruitable (at least are you D1 material or not) and should have 100+ college coaches in their phone (again of varying competitiveness and hopefully also varying academic profiles) that they can text to promote you as a fit for that college. The teams I know around here that pass any real muster for this are the Stars, Dig In (National team), Mid Atlantic Red Sox, Richmond Braves, and MVP (I think Black is their best team that focuses on college recruitment). DMV Prospects is good if you know you are a D3 player…they rarely send kids to D1. I don’t know the MVP experience if you don’t plan to attend Madison HS. The program is run by the Madison head coach. |
In our experience no organization in our area comes close to getting high marks across all of these criteria. Some as PP noted are solid at college recruitment, but otherwise communication/organization has been weak across the board and coaches ability to see/connect with kids is highly variable. |
| Skaggs does have a new gov job in a sciff. I imagine he was probably fired by DOGE. I winder if he regrets voting for Trump. I guess Primetime will likely start a bunch of new teams to pay off his debts. |
FAFO! |
My kid plays for Arlington United. It’s not top 5, but I don’t think mvp terps is either. Maybe marucci prospects, canes are always good, stars, Snyder bucks. |
Canes has a gazillion teams…it’s a franchise model, so some Canes teams are great (regional national teams) and some are horrible. They try to leverage the name to convince everyone you will get recruited, even though your Canes team may just be a local nobody coach that paid the franchise fee. |
Good to know. Won’t be as worried when we have to play them in a tourney. They always seem good. |
