Puerto Ricans are American citizens who can and do vote when they live in one of the states. 450,000 of them in Pennsylvania alone.

450K who left Puerto Rico for some reason.

Many of them left because after Maria devastated the island AND Trump refused to help them rebuild and withheld necessary money and supplies, people had to leave the island to find opportunities on the mainland. Many of them, like two of my co-workers, are sending money back to the island to help their families rebuild. They are doing what they can when Trump refused to do what he could.

They already knew that Trump was terrible for Puerto Rico. Some of them did not have time to go and vote. But I bet that after the Trump MSG event, that very few of them will miss going to cast their vote for Harris. He had started to catch up in Pennsylvania and he's now lost that state and possibly the whole election. And not only Puerto Ricans, but I also know other Latinos who are just as inflamed by the racist and very stupid joke.

I hope they were already registered to vote. October 21st was the last day to register to vote in Pennsylvania. However, if they live in North Carolina and Nevada they can still make a difference and register in-person and vote. It’s too late to register online.

Omg if Harris held an event that opened with a comedian that called Appalachia an island of garbage, can you imagine the endless sh%t she would get for that? Even if didnt come out of her mouth? Give me a break. His campain owns this.

+1 They’re still b|tching and moaning about what Obama said about guns and religion under his breath in PA in 2007.

PA is a horrible state

It most certainly is not!

People have been leaving PR for the mainland long long before Maria or Trump came along.

It’s too dirty for the news to discuss

The landscapes of puerto rico are amazing. It looks like a very hilly florida with narrow winding roads. Very tasty, but unhealthy food there.

It's also very very run down, like how much of the carribean looks. Probably due to intense sun+salt air. Ponce never recovered post Maria.

I love that you criticize the food of a poor island for its lack of healthy qualities. I love it very much.

What are they going to say? “The Trump campaign says Latino people are screwing like rabbits with predictable results, only worse and more insulting.”

Not much.

You two are pretty clueless. Yes, PR has no electoral votes. But Puerto Ricans live in many other states in the union, including several of the swing states. And not only did the trailer trash joke offend Puerto Ricans, it offended other Latinos as well. So, Trump was tied in Pennsylvania and probably has lost it. He was leading in Nevada and it's probably back to a toss up. He was leading in Arizona and it may be back to a toss up (yes, there are Mexican Americans who were also offended by the joke and many live in Arizona).

Oops, now all the people who live in mobile homes have to immediately change their votes from Harris to Trump.

Not slurring is hard!

Puerto Rico has been dragged down by a lot of things, not just Hurricane Maria. Loss of corporate tax incentives such as Section 936 caused a mass exodus of manufacturing and pharma from Puerto Rico, the Jones Act increases the cost of shipping between Puerto Rico and the mainland, they are still struggling with the recession that started with the pandemic, they need serious funds to fix their ailing energy and utility infrastructure.

They need debt restructuring, federal infrastructure investment, tax incentives, disaster relief funding, economic development programs, investments in energy infrastructure and a reform to the Jones Act. But all they could look forward to from a Trump presidency is to be called a "shithole," to have crass racist "jokes" hurled their way along with suggestions they be stripped of citizenship, maybe even be accused of eating cats and dogs, and when the next hurricane hits, have rolls of paper towels chucked at them.

It was way more graphic than that, I hope you know what was said.

Do you think Trump will apologize, like his minions have?

DP It was very graphic. And you know what, if MAGA people are okay with their children that they brought with them to the rally asking what the "comedian" was talking about, that's their problem. I would not consider any Trump rally to be appropriate for children and this type of comment is the least of it.

But this "joke" was not funny. I don't mean that I was so offended I couldn't laugh. I mean there wasn't a joke there (or in any of his other "jokes"). He was just saying mean, offensive things because he knows some people are so hateful they will cheer when he says hateful things.

He did not. When asked about it, he said he didn't know the guy, he didn't hear the guy, blah, blah, blah.

That just amplifies his incompetence. How could he have somebody he doesn’t know speak at his rally. There is no cleaning up this mess for Trump and the Maga cult.

Yes. He is either racist or incompetent, or both!
