Basis Independent McLean. As the name says, it’s not public. Basis DC is a public charter school. The Basis “franchise” can be applied to different types of schools. BIM happens to be private.

So, people at BIM pay tuition for the same education that Basis students receive for free in DC? Why?!?
How much is tuition?

Where did all of the noisy BIM parents go? Can any of you answer the question? Why are you paying tuition for the same education that Basis students receive for free in DC?

It's not like everyone wants to move to DC or that entrance into that school is automatic.

So why not utilize the “good” free Fairfax County schools? Isn’t that why you moved to VA in the first place?
You’re paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a public charter school?

Why does anyone opt for private school?

Do public schools offer single-sex or religious education opportunities?

The question of why people choose REAL private schools like Potomac, Madeira, and Episcopal has been asked and answered countless times in this forum. If you’re genuinely interested, you should conduct a keyword search.

BIM isn’t a real private school. It’s a public charter school that charges tuition. BIM Parents: If you really want to live in VA, why didn’t you choose TJ or any of the assorted comprehensive public schools in NoVa?

Apparently, it is the #2 private school in the DMV and they do charge tuition. So, yes it is.

And they constantly run advertising on NPR. Which I find to be.....weird.

It's for the TJ types that didn't get into TJ and who have no issues writing checks to the Chinese government to educate their kids. It's not for me but to each their own.

You sound dumb. Hopefully, you aren't a Sidwell parent.

Public schools: open to all in the school boundary
Charter schools in DC: open to all in school lottery
Private schools: Selective admissions and charge tuition.

BIM has selective admissions and charges tuition.
