Idk what dressed down would be these days. Nobody wears fancy outfits to travel, but rich people look more pulled together. The chicest traveler I have seen in recent memory was Daphne Oz's dh: all in perfectly-tailored navy casual but great shirt and pants, looking like a million bucks. |
This is actually the complete and utter opposite of the system in the UK. The Royals are at the top of the chain - they were the ones who made the nobility. All of the aristocrats are losing their money and have to spend exorbitant amounts to keep up their estates. But they are considered upper class because in Britain, it will never matter how much money you actually have, it matters what type of family you come from. The richest people in the country could be considered "middle class" because they're not aristocrats. And you can be house poor upper class aristocrats. The Royal Family have their money tied up in estates and jewels and duchies... it is the opposite of what's considered "middle class" there. (This is not an agreement of the system, just an explanation.) |
What's funny is if you are of Euro descent, you're pretty much guaranteed you are an aristocrat. You're just an aristocrat whose ancestors had the bad fortune of being son #3, dd #6...Enough bad downmarrying through generations and next thing you know you are on some small farm somewhere cleaning a pig pen. |

You sound insufferable but how exactly can you look at a car and know it’s leased? Are you one of those people who just can’t imagine buying a car that’s more expensive than the one you have? |
There is no such thing as new money people. There are people with money and those without. |
I despise pasta salad. Look at me. I am effortlessly high class. And I never even knew it. |
+10000 Americans are so obsessed with old money that they don’t even know why. A bunch of pathetic losers. |
DP here. IME leasers are MORE than happy to tell you all about it and try to convince you that its somehow saving them money.

I actually thought this was spot on. Well done! |
Shit. I’m totally new money, but I’m not even very rich! I just like talking stocks and investing, and have done well by saving and taking smart risks on my very meh salary. I think women not talking money has held us back. Also if you don’t wear your jewelry, what good is having it? I inherited lots of gold jewelry and wear it because it reminds me of my mom and is cultural. I’ll wear it with whatever. It’s my baseline. I’m not into expensive shoes or bags or labels, so I got you there. |
