The insurance policy was on the property, not Gloria and it was established by the Murdaughs

It should also be noted that the policy was taken out one month before Gloria's death.

They did an American Greed on him and really dove into the financial stuff. I'm not sure if this is covered here - I don't have Netflix - but he essentially admitted liability, encouraged the family to then sue his insurance, and gee, he couldn't represent them because that would be wrong, but here's this other attorney who can help you. He worked in cahoots with that guy and they fleeced that family but good.

Ok, that makes a bit more sense. I’m still confused why Alex would be the one to make sure Gloria’s family got the money. Or even his lawyer friend. Wouldn’t the insurance company check that the money went to the right person? Or was it just an informal agreement/lie Alex told her family, since the insurance policy was his?

It is strange to me that few mention this. Everyone knew Paul was a bad kid. Why were the parents letting their daughters hang out with him late at night?

Class and power. I believe his girlfriend was of lesser means so being with him was a step up. She had access to lots of things and experiences she wouldn't have otherwise and didn't tell her parents. The other kids, I think their parents probably condoned it as well a bit and they also were probably happy to be cool in the orbit of the Murdaughs.

+100

this is it. bad behavior is always overlooked in people who have money and power.

It is all convoluted and full of conflicts of interest. And Gloria's family was not the only one he scammed like this. It is why he has 90 financial charges still pending.
