“We are in close communication with the mayor’s office and getting the resources necessary. If some states don’t want to do their job on that, that’s fine. But then those federal resources should come to New York City, and those federal dollars should come to places that want to take care of people, and we need that financial support. Legal presence =/= permanent residence. How’s it hard to understand? You need a court date to grant asylum. There are no laws that require banks to allow access to the banking system for non-permanent residents. Make it a law that doesn’t allow non-residents, with few exceptions like students etc, to open bank accounts for starters. Do the same for long term housing. Permanent residence must be required except for maybe students.
