NYC has that right. Will the migrants choose to go knowing that they aren't welcome, will not be housed, and will not get work authorizations? Nobody is illegal has consequences and this is one of them |
'Applying' i.e. just saying the magic word 'asylum' they will allow you to get released and stay in the country for many months to years so you can earn money to send back home, save, and then move back. It's a joke. Why is there a surge in Venezuelans coming? What asylum do they need besides fleeing from a garbage economy? Who else needs asylum? They did mass incarcerations and obliterated gangs in El Salvador. They don't need asylum from gangs. The biggest joke is how they all come here, earn money, and then move back home once they've saved enough. In the interim, they've overwhelmed our schools and hospitals, don't pay their fair share of taxes, and hoard affordable housing that our own citizens desperately need. Anyone who lives here for years illegally to earn money and then moves home should have their money confiscated. It is an insult to everyone trying to come in here legally who actually wants to be here. |
| As with any large societal problem, the solution is in the middle between extreme viewpoints on both sides. But we have such a dysfunctional congress that no meaningful reform is likely to take place anytime soon. It is what it is. |
Again, it’s 100% legal. If you don’t want it to be legal, then take it up with your fed reps. |
Why has illegal immigration skyrocketed under Biden? Why did Biden do away with the Stay in Mexico plan that was actually working? |
We could begin by not making it comfortable and welcoming for people to enter illegally. |
Aggree. Localities and states should do the following to make life difficult while Congress doesn't do anything: * no driver's licenses or state issued IDs or social security number * no bank accounts allowed without state ID * no rentals allowed unless to a citizen or someone who can provide proof of legal residency * no in state tuition * require proof of state issued ID to wire money abroad Make it very uncomfortable to live here even if you can pour through the border. |
And, do not allow them to vote. And, hold them accountable for medical expenses. |
If Congress does nothing, then they’re allowed in, and are here legally. |
That doesn’t mean you have legal permanent residence, which still has to be determined in court. No laws require anyone to provide non permanent residents with banking access, housing access or driver’s licenses. Make it very uncomfortable for living life here. |
How is that even possible? They have legal presence. |
| Illegal immigration is one of the factors in decline of ER standards in hospitals. People without insurance go to ER for even small non urgent issues. |
| We make legal immigrants and work visa applicants jump through so many hoops for so long even though they bring their education, skills and money. Why can't we regulate illegal immigration to match our capacity to help. |
Legal presence =/= permanent residence. How’s it hard to understand? You need a court date to grant asylum. There are no laws that require banks to allow access to the banking system for non-permanent residents. Make it a law that doesn’t allow non-residents, with few exceptions like students etc, to open bank accounts for starters. Do the same for long term housing. Permanent residence must be required except for maybe students. |
Because Democrats say it is racist, xenophobia, and oppression. |
