Private & Independent Schools
This is very true. I know for a fact one of the history persons listed on the faculty page is no longer working there. She announced on linkedin earlier this summer. |
|
The fact is, more and more parents are sending their kids to Basis McLean. Compare to last year, the total student count increases 22%, The number of 9th graders increases 34.5%.
Yes, there are some teachers left including middle school director. But only 4.25% teachers left. I am the one who posted many posts in this thread in Spring with imperfect English. I am back. lol |
Your percentage of teachers leaving would imply 2-3 when the real number is much higher. Many of us know who is still teaching there or not. Make up whatever you like for your rah-rah campaign. |
The teachers and staff who left updated their own LinkedIn pages. The school is effectively lying by not updating their website. |
Good to know. How many students in 9th grade? Do you know how many are new students? |
| I’d love a school in a beltway that is not like the DC koolaid schools. Is this it? |
It’s great to hear from someone who knows the data with such great accuracy. Increase of the total enrollment by 22% is impressive. Now the school grew to ~610 students. I'm joining the PPs here: the percentages might give a skewed picture. For example, if there were total 4 students in the 9th grade last year and this year 2 students added, the growth is 50%. Assuming the 34.5% is accurate number, what is the enrollment? 25 total in the 9th grade? 10 total in 11th? Another interesting metric is the retention percentage. What is the retention rate in transition from MS to HS, for example? The percentage of teachers left is 4.25%. Let’s assume that’s 4 out of 98. Judging only by the numbers, this is not a big loss. However, what subjects did they teach? Are there resources to redistribute the load? Perhaps, the 4.25% number doesn’t include the mentioned above MS director. Rumors say that, in addition to the director duties, he was teaching physics courses, covering the load of a teacher who, seemingly, was driven out last October by the policies of the new HoS. Maybe the reason why people hesitate to enroll their children is the administration policies that emerge from the combination of the CCP style management and solely pursuit of the profits. |
They did not have 98 teachers. The total teachers AND staff was just scraping 100 in spring 2020 when they started laying people off in their enrollment crisis. The percentage that left is going to reach low double digits. Whatever the ratio, remember that the school has lost many of its best teachers after the first year of a new HoS. Shouldn't he have cemented a management culture to KEEP the next staff? There are clearly some rotten undercurrents in that building that management is pushing to keep hidden under the barrage of cheesy, obvious rah-rah PR and stooge posters here. |
The former MS director (still shown on the BIM website) is now teaching middle school science in a Fairfax public school, according to his LinkedIn profile, so that is very plausible. Imagine abandoning a higher-paid management job to go back to the public schools that he left in 2017 because he really didn't like it there. That's the reality at BIM now. |
6/141 is the percentage Only 6 left |
The website may not be updated My numbers are based on ParentSquare which are updated |
6/141, 6 staff left I don’t know if I should reveal the number of 9th grader. But I heard this summer 5 8th graders were accepted by TJ, only 1 decided to join TJ this semester. The other 4 all decided to stay at Basis. This should mean something |
Go find 141 teachers on their website. I'll sit and wait. You assume that no former teachers still have accounts on ParentSquare that were never deleted. Mine may still be there, LOL. It's not a reliable metric, just like your statistics. A teacher cohort of 141 would be something like 4:1 student-teacher ratio. That's off in fantasyland. There were less than 100 teachers and staff in spring 2020, and they haven't hired 40% more since then. They were laying people off because the budget was bleeding red ink as students deserted. Those are verifiable facts from people who were actually on the staff, and info from people still on the staff there now. But do show me the 141 teachers on the website. That should be easy, right? |
I hadn't seen that departure, but checking Linkedin confirms it. The only AP US History and Government teacher left after six years at the school. |
This is apparently one of the state secrets. The turnover at that place is sky high. DC went there but left (and no, it wasn’t due to stupidity as will be assumed). It was because of the toxic culture. |
